Rumour Mill-The Cork's a Popping, Jack!

Speculation on Clarets messageboard boards soared yesterday following the hint from Brian Laws that we were in the market for an Under 21 international from a Premier League side.

It would appear the target we are interested in is 20 year old Chelsea midfielder, Jack Cork.

Brian Laws is understood to be close to finalising a loan deal the England Under 21 international for the rest of the season. It is believed the deal will be finalised on Monday 1st February before the window closes at 5:00pm

By coincidence, Burnley play Chelsea at Turf Moor this Saturday so there has been no rush to complete the deal since Cork would not have been allowed to play against his parent club anyway.

Cork has not yet made his first team debut for Chelsea but has had several successful loan spells in the Championship and lower leagues and played in over 100 games.

He has had two loan spells at Bournemouth followed by stints at Scunthorpe United, Southampton and Watford.

Cork signed a new three-year deal with the Blues last summer and spent the first half of the season on loan at Coventry returning to Stamford Bridge in December.

Although mainly a midfielder Cork can also play in the back four.

The links to Bolton refuse to subside, with Jack being the son of former Bolton Wanderers coach, Alan Cork who left the club after the appointment of Joshua Judas Moses Coyle!

Very exciting if we pull this one off! I assume he was Plan B after losing out on Jack Wilshere. Seems like t'other Jack will be going to Bolton after all,Wenger must be nuts although was probably mildly amused by the grovelling Coyle after backtracking on his Gallas outburst.

Wow fellas, it would be great to see Corky play for you lads. He's a Chelsea lad through and through and I'd love to see him succeed in the Prem League. Rest assured, he's a very competent Defensive Midfielder and has been impressive in his loan spells.

Cort, and now, possibly, Cork. Is it because the club shop over stocked the letters C and O at the start of the campaign ? Can we expect any other players called Co... ? Seriously, have seen a bit of this youg lad and he looks a good prospect. Would be a great loan signing. [Edited by ford]

Do we assume if Cork is to come in it will be a straight fight between him and Grezza for the defensive midfield spot? or does Laws intend to play two defensive mid when everyone is fit? I thought Bikey deserved his MOM yesterday and maybe Laws sees him in this position? Or does he see Bikey as a partner for Cort? Decisions Decisions.

Totally agree about Bikey. I thought that he was surperb. I saw the match in a pub in Covent Graden before a curry tasting evening. Thought that I was the only claret surrounded by Chelsea fans. However, met another fan - son of Kilby actually.

We need a midfielder at the min, with McCann, Alexander and McDonald all injured! Bikey was brill yesterday as well. I think he will be a good addition though.

Finges crossed, I think BL is doing a geat job in the loan market considering the shot time he has had.

Could be a good deal for both clubs if it comes off we are certainly lacking in midfield and this would gives us some extra options
