Rumour Mill-Jay McEveley on Clarets Radar?

Derby County defender,Jay McEveley is understood to be one of Brian Laws' targets according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 24 year old Scotland international defender can play at both left back and in the centre of defence and of course is no stranger to Burnley fans.

McEveley had a loan spell at Turf Moor in the 2003-4 season arriving from local rivals, Blackburn Rovers. He played just four games before returning to Ewood Park. Further loan spells at Gillingham and Ipswich Town followed.

He signed for Derby County during the January 2007 transfer window for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £600,000.

McEveley has since entered into negotiations to sign a new contract with the Rams with his current deal expiring at the end of the 2009/10 season.

I can only assume we intend to sign a new left back and we are looking at options in case the Fox deal falls through

We need a good solid left back that can play good football. this lad is a good player & if Fox is messing Burnley about let hih stay at Celtic and play second rate English division one football because thata all the SPL IS none of the teams would survive in the premiership

Before I start writing, let me say I know of our financial situation. However, no matter who we sign i get the feeling we're preparing for the championship instead of trying to stay in the premiership. What sort of mentality is that? Need to be looking at players who aren't getting a game for their prem clubs and attempting to sign them instead of always relying on the championship and hoping we find a gem. This kid might be ok, but if Derby aren't sure about him and willing to let him go does this not speak volumes??

I think you are right ODE, I think a lot of people feel we are preparing for life in the championship. They will lose a lot of Season Ticket holders, having said that they will be the ones who jumped on the band wagon when we were promoted. Whatever league we are in I will continue to renew my season ticket as I am sure many other fans who have been through many lows with the club will do the same.

Looks like this one is dead in water now with news that we have signed Fox today
