Nugent Loan Extension Looks Close

The Official Site seem bullish about Burnley's chances of extending David Nugent's loan until the end of the season.

Burnley have formally triggered a loan extension for the Portsmouth striker and are now just awaiting the rubber-stamp from the finacially-stricken Hampshire club.

Brian Laws confirmed the situation on the Official Site saying:

'We have exercised our option to extend his loan through for the rest of the season

We are now just waiting for Portsmouth to get back to us to get it clarified and sorted for the weekend,

'We are just waiting for their reply and paperwork and I am assuming that's going to go ahead.'

Laws is keen to have Nugent available for the clash at Turf Moor this Saturday against high-flying Chelsea

From what i've seen, you can tell he's better than the strikers we have (except Fletcher), but he lets face it he's not a natural goal scorer. Main examples i cite are the miss v UTD and v Bolton he never gambled when balls came into the box (flat footed).

coming from A Christian point of view God will help us, We did the right thing this time by not stealing someone elses manager, We have been carefull as a club not to over spend, Burnley fc is now built on strong foundations, a lot of the shady dishonest manipulative dealings of some of the directors & so called wealthy in debht clubs will come to bite them on the arse in years or months to come. Lets pray to the real God that Nugent starts to score, to quote scripture the prayers of good and righteous fans and a good honest football club will gain favour

Agreed, he's missed chances , but he's definately talented, and he'll do a job for us. Anyone who's played the game at whatever level knows that you can go through phases of nothing going in, even when the team's playing well. And then all of a sudden things start to go right and it's a case of 'somebody stop me' . Look at Everton . Let's hope our turn comes soon and then we can overtake Bolton Wanderwhatitsliketoplayfootball.

By the way Ac, agree with you 100% on the strong foundations . There's a few clubs queuing up to go the way of Portsmouth and Palace , and some of them are at the top.

Yeah but they will all do a Leeds have their debts wiped off and stay in business! That's what admiinistration actually means and although it annoys us all, the clubs survive and start climbing back! It's a fine balance iin my opinion take some calculated risks to stay a Prem side or stay debt free and lose out on the revenue by playing safe and then plead poverty as a Championship side with gates back down to 11,000? Somehow this viscious circle has to be broken

No idea what's left in our premiership pot, but assume it's nearly gone by now, then there's no problem as far as I'm concerned in borrowing now, whatever the parachute payment will be in the unlikely event of us going down. :-) That's a sensible gamble because if it works , we're up for another slice of premier pie. If it doesn't work , the loan is squared and we've still got the newly signed players 'cos it's written into their contracts that they stay even if we go down. Because a contract is a contract, is'nt it ?Well, is'nt it ?

I have had too chose my words on Nugent carefully, He could not give at toss about Burnley! some like him some don't? what did it for me was against united laughing after he missed! I liked him at rochdale or was it Bury his standard? I wouldn't pay £300.00 for him he does not give a crap about any club just money! why else would want to sign a contract in the summer? (see if Burnley are still up?) not with Nugents goals we wont be! get rid!!! money grabber!!

I respect Flash Harry Redknapp's opinions on football matters. I wouldn't buy a used car from him but he knows a lot about footballers and attitude.

I agree with the anti Nugent brigade. He is okay in the Championship but not good enough for the Prem and that stupid grin he always has on his face! I suppose keeping him on loan for the season is okay but I certainly wouldn't want us to get him permanently. Cort is a good buy I think. I also agree with Laws that our set plays are poor and we are the only team yet to score from a corner, however he needs to give Robbie more game time to improve that statistic. We are not down yet - Burnley always have a crap January and then pick up later - we need to keep going and not get despondent just like Stoke last year. Up the Clarets!

I think we just get his loan extended for 3 months and see if he can do anything for us until Summer. We have plenty of attacking options at moment anyway . If he doesn't come up to scratch we can get let him to Pompey and sweat . If on the other hand he proves his worth and his loyalty to the club and wants a permanent deal then maybe we can accommodate him. If he sticks two fingers up and/or we get relegated and he's off to Prem land then it's no skin off our nose, We just bring in someone better with the hunger to play for Burnley

I fear Nugent is not delivering the goods . Our high expectation is thinning . HE cannot be valued for 3 million pounds .it is throwing money through the window .

Apparantly on Sky Sports they are now saying Nugent has returned to Portsmouth and is training with them. What the **** is going on?

Story on beebwww about Pompey is that no-one there knows what's going on, with deals being made behind manager's and chief exec's backs, and without them even knowing who is doing it. So if Bfc ends up looking confused, it's not their fault. I expect they've comcluded it's time to move on.

I am quite relived David Nugent has gone back to Portsmouth. Tudgay is as fast as nugent and a better footballer i belive at this level he will find the back of the net & with the kind of player he is he will bring the best out in Fletcher. i did my FA coaching prelim badge 15 years age & have watched Nugents controt & distribution of the ball he seems to mess around with the ball and do nothing with it
