Rumour Mill- A Weaver to Nick?

According to the Daily Mirror, Brian Laws is interested in bringing 30 year old keeper, Nicky Weaver to Turf Moor.

Clarets fans might ne loathe to accept this gossip since the article is written by the now disgraced journalist and Coyle confidante, Alan Nixon.

Brian Laws knows the keeper having loaned him from Manchester City whilst at Sheffield Wednesday in Autumn 2005.

The well-travelled keeper started his professional career with Mansfield Town before joining Manchester City in 1997.

In July 2007, the out of contract Weaver signed for Charlton Athletic on a free transfer but was released last summer before joining SPL side, Dundee United in August 2009 on a short-term contract until January this month.

Weaver, a former England Under 21 international made it plain he would like to return to England and it had been thought he would sign for Middlesbrough after being given a recent trial.

Brian Laws definitely appears to be in the market for one if not two keepers after links also with Lee Grant at Sheffield Wednesday.

Laws yesterday though scotched any interest in Grant saying:

'Obviously people speculate and we can't stop that. He's quite clearly a very good goalkeeper and he's got a bright future ahead of him but there's certainly nothing in it at the moment.'

All this seems to have upset Brian Jensen who via his agent this week has dropped hints he could be moving to Portugal in the summer if a new contract can not be agreed soon.

Well I think we have now been linked with so many keepers I have lost count. lets see we have had Lonergan, Burch, Grant and now Weaver! With three keepers already on the books, Jensen, Penny and Lund something will have to give soon if there is any truth in any of these keeper rumours
turfmanphil
VR's gone very quiet about Lonergan since telling us it was practically a done deal back in early December.

Perhaps Alan Stevenson could be linked with a return - every other 'keeper has been. Which reminds me. Whatever happened to Roger Hansbury ?

Yeah someone mentioned they'd read this in todays Daily Mirror, I had reckoned to look before shooting off to work, but I obviously missed it. Time will tell.

Cant see this one myself.

Brian Jensen is a good keeper, we need a young keeper like grant who is slightly better and more versatile. not one that in my opinion is not as good
