Rumour Mill-Hayden We Could Be After Mullins

30 year old Portsmouth midfielder, Hayden Mullins is attracting interest from a number of clubs including Burnley according to Sky Sports. Up to half-a-dozen clubs are believed to be interested including Stoke and Middlesbrough

Mullins joined Pompey only 12 months ago from West Ham but has struggled to get a regular place in the side having made just seven starts so far this season.

The former England Under 21 international started his professional career with Crystal Palace having first joined them as a trainee in August 1996.

Mullins signed for West Ham in October 2003 (initially via a short-term loan)for a fee of 600,000 rising to 800,000 should West Ham be promoted.

In January 2009 Mullins joined Portsmouth signing a three and a half year contract.

He is described as a defensive midfielder and he scored just 7 goals in 213 league and cup appearances for West Ham,

Seem to have a habit of being linked with players out of favour at their clubs and struggling to get a starting place!

I wouldn't be massively disappointed with him TMP. He's been involved with premiership clubs for 7 years now, meaning he's got experience and yeh he's not playing regularly for Pompey, but that should make him cheaper. Plus he would give us depth and i would say he's no worse than anyone we have in that position at the mo.

He was rated highly within the West Ham supporters. Could be a good move.

Can you not pay up for Nugent first? 5M should cover it?

I dont think he would be a bad signing - plenty of premiership experiance as mentioned above

I wouldn't mid this one at all. Cover for Grezza or maybe a replacement. We need a defensive midfielder really.

Seeing as it is Portsmouth, they would probably greatly accept a fiver for the deal! But have to be honest this wouldn't be a bad signing.

Would we pay Portsmouth for him or Udinese or the Portsmouth players who haven't had their wages?!

Very odd situation at Portsmouth, let's hope they see sense at Pompey over Nugent and let the loan run until Summer;he clearly wants to stay. The feeling is they have too many other things to worry about than focus on Nugent, hence the delay in sorting out. Believe his contract now runs out on 26th not 22nd has suggested previously

I really feel sorry for Pompey fans, I used to know a young lass Ange Cox who followed them all over the show, probably still does and lives in the NW. I keep on thinking how would I feel if my board were saying stop the transfer embargo and let us spend more cash that we have not got! Sadly all the signs are that they will have to reduce the wage bill somehow. What was Avram Grant thinking when he said YES.

I keep reading of people struggling to get into the Portsmouth side. What worries me is if you look where they are in the League you begin to wonder how bad theses strugglers are ? Speaking of which, the Pompey struggler we're tryin to keep at Burnley hasn't proved his real worth to us yet, imo, however jolly and eager he might be on the training ground.

Nugent saying he only wants to stay at Burnley via a loan wanting to think about a permanent move and his future in the Summer. Is that double-speak for 'and then Bolton can have me if they are still in the Prem'?

This transfer window is all very murky. Maybe Willie Irvine can get his window-cleaning kit out of his shed and clear everything up for us. (Yes! As anyone who has read Dave Thomas's excellent Willie Irvine book will know, our hero washed windows for a bit. And did some youth work at the same time.) But does anyone know when the window actually closes? The 31st is a Sunday. So maybe it won't close till Monday? Regardless, will it end with a bang or a whimper? The various financial winding up orders in February may end up being more interesting! Can we start a poll on which will be the first club to go into admin? And talking of interest... watching Manure raise 500 million to no apparent purpose beyond getting the Glazer brothers' interest payments down should at least give football finance watchers something to write about. And keep accountants, lawyers and bankers off the streets.

takehim.... we need the money - no other reason than that. He sweats blood for the team - not particularly outstanding but a trier, gets about - passing indifferent - and we've got a few of them - Yebda, Mokoena, Brown, Hughes, Diop, etc

jim4pompey, I thought you were talking about Nugent, then. Tmp, astute as usual, I suspect.

We need someone who can pass consistantly wel, with speed, skill, not an average player no matter how hard he works. we are looking at players that are not as good as the ones we have at the moment. I am 47 and remember the likes of Jhonny Giles, we need to look for players with that kind of quality who can run the midfield, not run around like headless chickens.
