Lafferty in Northern Ireland Squad

Lafferty in Northern Ireland Squad

Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty has continued his whirlwind year, by receiving a call up to the Northern Ireland senior squad.

The 18 year-old striker, who only broke into the first team squad this season, will join up with the squad for their tour of America, for the matches against Uruguay and Romania.

It represents another high for Lafferty, who scored his first senior goal for the Clarets in the final game of the season at home to Luton Town.

Lafferty, who spent time on loan at Darlington before breaking into Steve Cotterill's side will now be hoping to win his first cap in high profile games for Lawrie Sanchez's side.

Under 21 manager Roy Millar told Irishfa.com, 'He performed extremely well for us during last year's Milk Cup playing in the squad that beat Brazil and Serbia.'

Lafferty also played in the final during the Milk Cup against USA, and will now joins the full squad for the games in New Jersey and Chicago.

That is good news. Good for the lad, and even more experience for him to bring into next season. Shall be looking out for those games, you would think he would be capped travelling all that way.

Previously we did get some great players from Northern Ireland . Only to mention McIlroy and Elder . History is repeating . In Lafferty we have a great player in the making . To play for his country at such a tender age is a great honour .Hope that delivers the good and become a great player .
