Rumour Mill-Gunning for Gunnarsson?

Brian Laws is hoping to bring Coventry right back and midfielder, Aron Gunnarsson to Turf Moor according to the Daily Star.

It is understood Laws has been impressed with Gunnarsson having seen him in action while boss of Sheffield Wednesday.

A transfer fee of £950,000 has been mooted for the 20 year old Icelandic international. Gunnarsson has struggled to get a regular place in the Sky Blues team this season with new Coventry signings Gary Deegan and Carl Baker competing with him for a start.

Gunnarsson began his career with local Icelandic side Þór Akureyri in 2005, before moving to Holland after signing for AZ in 2006. He made one full appearance for AZ in the 2007-08 season. He then moved to Coventry City in June 2008.

The player will be well known to fellow Icelandic international,Joey Gudjonsson. Gunnarson has 16 Icelandic caps and made his international debut in Iceland's 2-0 friendly defeat against Belarus on 2 February 2008.

Just sounds like another struggling Championship player to me but with a club hell bent on keeping the salary cap at £15k/week, and not going into debt I guess we have to be happy with our lot and trust Laws who has been brought in precisely because he can spot decent players with a low budget in mind.

agree with you fully there boss, frustrating, im a bit bemused, how can he struggle to start yet still impress laws,,,infamy infamy.
palsdad
Guess all we can do is give Laws a chance, see who he brings in and then judge them on the pitch. At least he might play them so we can judge 'em unlike half of Coyle's signings a la Penny, Eckersley, Van Der 'Wherethehellareyou'Schaaf, Easton and Guerrero. At least Edgar got his first game yesterday under Laws

We don't need another right back unless Susan has bought Mears?
VinRogue
I think he is more of a midfielder at moment. Maybe hes been targeted as the new Alexander?
turfmanphil
Are purchases like this more in preparation for next year than to make a difference this year ie planning for a return to the championship!
heathfieldclaret
We have a back up right back in Eckersley. Don't fancy this lad he can't get in Coventry team.
skutter169
If he isnt getting in the Coventry side - surely he cant be good enough to play for us at the current time?
Claretdale
Well he is in and out, starts then on bench in recent matches!
turfmanphil
I think its the lad who has got the 'delap' style throw
Claretdale
As Simon Cowell says....."Thats a No from me then"
VinRogue
Why do we want him. A long throw on its own is not good enough! KJeeping Joey company is also not a good enough reason.
heathfieldclaret
And for the reasons given above, I'm out.

Can I go 50/50 ?
RickersTwickers
Surely we should only be targeting the best players in a lower division. Is he one of them? I'm not convinced.
