The Laws at Burnley & The Life of Brian!

Brian Laws, confirmed as the new maanger of Burnley FC today has been speaking to the Official Site about his new appointment

'I am sure there are a lot of Burnley fans asking, 'why Brian Laws?' Well let me tell you, I have followed Burnley since I was 16-years-old, when I joined the club.I have had an affinity with this club for a long time and I am really honoured to have the privilege of managing Burnley Football Club in the Premier League. This is a fantastic opportunity. Owen Coyle has done a fantastic job at this club. Nobody can ever take that away and I wouldn't want to even try.But at this moment in time he has dropped the baton and we want to pick it up with the supporters and drive on over the finishing line, which means we will have stayed in the Premier League. That is our drive and ambition and I will do everything in my power to achieve that because this great club is where it should be.'

Some excellent words there Brian and I guess all we have to ask is can we now bring Marcus Tudgay to Turf Moor and how was James O'Connor last time you spoke to him?!! ;-)

His words impressed me too tmf. I'm beginning to warm...
ClaretClaude
I am warming to him!! lol ;-) Will see what they say at news conference on Sky Sports in 15 minutes (3:30pm)
turfmanphil
I'm at uni and can't watch the bloody tele because we have no signal. I think I might try to raid my mates room....
ClaretClaude
Wow! Just like Waddle. 'I'll do everything to get Burnley out of this league.' Didn't think that he was hinting at possible relegation that year (he even missed that!) He is talking the talk. Let's see if he can walk the walk or do a Coyle!
heathfieldclaret
Saying the right things on Sky Sports News at the moment. Kilby didn't say much though!!!!
heathfieldclaret
I thought that he sounded very good on Sky Sports News. I hope that he matches it. Kilby didn't sound so impressive. Is it a possible stop-gap appointment?
heathfieldclaret
Yep my sentiments exactly HC, I am hoping and praying he turns out to be the great asset he sounds like he could be. Words though and now time for actions since they do tend to speak louder
turfmanphil
Who will Laws' first purchase be? I wonder if anyone has any thoughts. Will he go for someone from Wednesday? Will Mears and Eagles be allowed to go?
heathfieldclaret
I see that elsewhere you think that it might be Tudgay turfmanphil. No thoughts about a 'keeper?
heathfieldclaret
It just occured to me,I think Eagles was on loan at Shef Wed under Laws was he not? Laws might be able to keep him at Turf Moor if the relationship was good. Let's cherry pick the Owls players who would we want if any?
turfmanphil
Not sure that I fancy any of the Wednesday team at the moment!
heathfieldclaret
Just looked on Wikipedia at past Wednesday players from last few years. Not much there although is one at West Brom and one at Rangers! Amazed at how quickly wikipedia is updated with information that Laws is now our manager.
heathfieldclaret
Eagles is going no where I hope
Grimsby Claret
I am an Owls fan. Brian lost his way a bit at Hillsborough but he is a decent bloke. It will be interesting to see how good a manager he is with a bit of money to spend. I hope he does really well for you.
CLIFFANDJ
He is talking the talk. He wasn't my first choice, but hey when we appointed Coyle I was like, "Who?". I'm definatley willing to give him a chance and I will support this club no matter what! In regards to Kilby he never comes accross well on TV. Always seems a bit dull and slow! However I don't wnat a chairman whose in news all time usaully leads to disaster and I trust BK.
skutter169
Didn't see SSN due to being at work and still am boo hoo, a win at United and Laws will be god!! and then a win at Bolton amen we have a new god.
sheclaret
i think if Laws was gonna cherry pick any of our Wednesday players, it would be our keeper Grant and Tudgay. Laws will know too well that we need to sell in January to help the debt, so will get them at the right price if he wants them. I think if you offer anywhere near what you offered for Tudgay back in the summer then we will accept it. Maybe 1-1.5m too for Grant.
johnnywalker69
Going down, going down, going down!
Haigh_For_7
Am slightly warming to Laws now so let's all get behind him. Grant is a no brainer. That would get rid of one liability from our team. Tudgay is a good player too and we will need to score goals, especially if as expected Nugent goes. I'd then still like a forward or attacking midfielder but the big priority is one centre back. Like Killgallon but less greedy. I'm delighted we saw fit to bid for one.
CrosspoolClarets
I wonder if one of our Owls friends could remind us about what Laws said when he took over at Hillsborough. Was he as positive about the role? Did he speak about the club being the most important thing? Maybe, we are getting someone who will show loyalty to the club. Perhaps we should show loyalty to him from day 1.
heathfieldclaret
We will be loyal and get behind our new manager.
Grimsby Claret
Of course GC. Sorry for a delay in saying this, just been Notlob bashing on Vital. I see tmp has done the same. Its great fun!
heathfieldclaret
I remember being in WH Smith in Burnley when I heard Steve Cotterill had been appointed. I was driving through Kensington when I heard about Owen Coyle coming to the club. At the time neither filled me with much hope but, in different ways, both turned out to be pretty decent gaffers. Brian Laws probably makes me feel the same way but looking at his press conference he sounded keen to get started and delighted to be back. He's our manager now and deserves support. Best of luck Brian.
RickersTwickers
Who was the last manager who was an absolute nightmare at Burnley? Three interviews before being sleceted shows some sort of in depth consideration. Laws may not have seemed a good choice initially, but am warming to him all of the time. I especially liked the suggestion of loyalty from him. Especially in the light of our rats!
heathfieldclaret
I'm guessing Chris Waddle was the last one that didn't work out HC though I can recall the dark days under John Bond who, to this day, makes me froth at the mouth whenever I hear his name.
RickersTwickers
Both were big names, wanting it for themselves rather than the club. Maybe that is why Laws seem a much better option than I first thought. Have suggested that Bolton will want him in a few months on their vital site. Didn't go down too well with them. However, I am starting to feel much happier with the appointment.
heathfieldclaret
Good to see Mr Laws on the job already, so to speak. Just flashed up on ITV at the Liverpool v Reading replay casting an eye over our eventual 4th round opponents. [Edited by ford]
RickersTwickers
Thanks for the tip RT, just switched over to the footie and Liverpool have just scored. A bit of Deja Vu in getting Liverpool in the cup.
heathfieldclaret
Another own goal when we're there, in the right net of course, would bring back happy memories
Couch Potato
can't believe you have appointed a pig..good thing is though sir brian could relegate the pigs (wendesday) by signing grant, beevers, spur and tudgay!! come on brian don't let us blades down now!!
bladesforlife1889
If you are still viewing Vin, I liked the comment on the Notlob site
heathfieldclaret
We are THE Clarets not the Blades or Notlob. If we have him for 2 years or more we need to back him. Otherwise we end up with a stupid situation like they had at Notlob where the whole organisation was in a mess. Go for it Lawsie!
AndyHo
OMG! Could it be Reading instead of Liverpool! Would all of the Reading players keep their shirts on!
heathfieldclaret
Cheers Heathfield, never ventured onto another site before...but for those on here this is what I posted... Apparently Brian Laws has found in the cabinet a paper marked how to get one point away from home. Perhaps it belongs to your manager? Maybe he would like to pop back for it one day?
VinRogue
Maybe Coyle took his routemap of Championship team locations ready for next season!
heathfieldclaret
Could it be Reading? They are now leading and Laws have left before the end. I suppose he feels that he knows enough about them.
heathfieldclaret
Yes Rickers Twickers, Waddle was indeed the last "nightmare" appointed. And ironically, he was the most enthusiastically received. I remember an early game at Chesterfield when we lost 1-0 which I always remember as a particularly terrible experience.
cubanclaret
I went to games at Fulham and Millwall that season. Abysmal is all that I can say. He was a very bad manager - hopeless tactics and no inspiration for those around him. Throughout the day I have become more and more comfortable with the appointment. Come on you Clarets.
heathfieldclaret
Well. It is Reading. I did we get on against them last year!!!!!!
heathfieldclaret
My typing is getting worse. Should say 'how did we get on against them@
heathfieldclaret
TMP - Eagles loan spell at Wednesday pre-dated Laws taking over there.
cubanclaret
Welcome home Brian. Well impressed with his interview , he can certainly talk the talk and I’ve got a good feeling that he’ll walk the walk as well. Good to see that he’s going to carry on the ‘entertaining, free flowing, attacking football’ . His first challenge will be to improve the away form , one win and he’s done it! Old Trafford?
WelshClaret
Laws is a top bloke and knows how to speak to the media & fans, it's the players he has trouble communicating with. Whatever he says in the dressing room doesn't seem to get across to the players out on the pitch. Eagles hated his time with us & refused to come back, bad mouthed us & went to Watford. I don't know if that was the club in general or Laws. Only got one decent player and that's Grant, if he goes we are down, kept us up more than once & gets player of the month 9 times out of ten plus player of the season. Afraid there are a lot bigger fish after his services but you never know. Good luck Burnley fans i think you are going to need it.
duds
Oh forgot to add He hast 2 game plans A & B, plan B is 2 try plan A again
duds
Hello Clarets, just popped in again to catch up. Well, well, well. Brian Laws, eh? That came out of left field for me. My money was on Coppell. Well, no matter, hopefully he stays true to the footballing philosophy and that he can do a job and keep you up. Hope those hard-to-come-by away points materialize this week (!) and that Burnley FC make it come May. Hopefully at the expense of the Cloggers. Notlobs! I like it! Good luck for the run-in guys and girls!
julieloveshenry4ever
Thanks Julie. How is the big love of your life doing at the moment?
Couch Potato
Surprised at this appointment, but the board didn't wait, maybe the fact that no compensation was necessary and with the money received for OC then it could be a good move, but he was sacked from his last job.
Buzz Lightyear
Keeping a low profile by the look of it CP, even though he shouldn't have to!
julieloveshenry4ever
Sacked from his last job means nothing in football, Gus Hiddink, Benitez etc etc talking of which has anyone else seen the link on the new Bolton Manager taking over at Liverpool once Benitez departs or perhaps its not a big enough club to leave notlob for? lol perhaps Phil you could start a breaking news story on this one? I am happy to be quoted or my ace friends Alicia Nickersoff and Alan Nickerson maybe able to help.
VinRogue
Ah yes you are right CC. Eagles was there for the first part of the 2005-6 season and Laws didn't arrive at Hillsborough until Nov 2006. Probably just as well bearing in mind Duds comment about Eagles hating his time at Shed Wed
turfmanphil
Just seen pictures on BFC website of training. Nice to see some smiling faces. I hope that calmness spreads and we relax again after the turmoil of the past two weeks.
heathfieldclaret
Yeah I thought that looked quite encouraging. I really hope Brian makes a go of this and proves his critics wrong (myself included to a degree)
