Burnley X-Files:Unsworth Preston First Team Coach

Our former defender, David Unsworth has been appointed first team coach at Preston North End.

Unsworth will now work alongside new manager Darren Ferguson at Deepdale.

The former Everton and England player signed for Burnley on a one-year contract in August 2007 after being released by Wigan in May that year.

At the end of the season, he was offered a new deal as a player/coach by then manager Owen Coyle, but he rejected the offer and left the club in June 2008.

A short spell as a player at Huddersfield followed before he hung up his boots in April 2009.

Unsworth, now 36 joined Preston North End later during 2009 as development coach where he looked after the club's first-year professionals.

He has now though been promoted to first team coach.

Oh well at least he didn't go to Bolton!

Wonder if Preston might come in for some of our cast offs come summer transfer window. We will have 10 players out of contract a lot who will be known to Unsworth?

I hope Brian Laws is strong enough to let the ones go who are too old or not good enough...they know who they are!

Good luck to him, I liked Unsworth.

Agree Sheclaret, good luck and please feel free to reduce our wage bill by taking our slightly older soiled goods....

Maybe a nice little earner for PNE to have our cast-offs and sell them on to Bolton!

Unsworth was a good player. Best of luck to him.
Nellup
Agreed, nellup.
Couch Potato
Wonder if he would have upsticks and gone to Bolton had he accepted Coyle's offer of player-coach at Burnley a couple of seasons back?
turfmanphil
All credit to him - someone not tempted to work with Coyle.
