The club have confirmed Brian Laws is the new manager of Burnley FC and that he has signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
Russ Wilcox, 45, who spent ten years at Scunthorpe and Sheffield Wednesday with Laws has also joined as Assistant Manager.Graham Alexander has also since been confirmed as player-coach.
Brian Laws will be unveiled as the new manager at a News conference at 3:30 pm today (Wednesday). This will also be televised by Sky Sports.
The Official Site give the reasons for Laws appointment and state:
"The Burnley board have been particularly impressed by the way Brian consistently achieved relative success in his former post at Sheffield Wednesday, while operating with one of the lowest wage and transfer budgets in the Championship. The results of a Deloitte and Touche study, delivered at the club's request, confirm that he was top of the list of Championship managers over the period 2006-2009, in terms of delivering the best results relative to financial budgets."
Clarets fans will now be hoping he can continue to achieve this at Premier League level and his first task of course will be to try and keep the club in the top flight. He will certainly have a 'baptism of fire' with his first game in charge at Old Trafford this Saturday followed by the pot-boiler of a match against Bolton at the Reebok. There will also be an FA Cup clash in the middle of those two league games either against Reading at the Madejski Stadium or more likely,Liverpool at Anfield. The two sides play their replay at Anfield tonight.
If Laws can get a result against the Champions or at the very least Bolton who are now fast becoming Enemy Number 1, he will be an instant hit with Clarets fans and that would certainly sway some of the Doubting Thomases (including I have to admit myself at the moment)
His first home game in charge will be against Chelsea so he is certainly not being given an easy life.
The Official site also go on to say:
"We believe Brian will deliver a continuity of the culture to which Burnley fans and staff have become accustomed. As a former Burnley defender, he is especially familiar with the club, the traditions we have and the passion we all share."
Vital Burnley welcome back Brian after 26 years and wish him and his management team well.
We have all had our say about the appointment and I think we can now all move on and get behind Brian and give him our 100% support.
