Houston Dynamo Holden takes up Burnley Trial

Houston Dynamo Holden takes up Burnley Trial

Burnley have offered a trial to 24 year old Houston Dynamo midfielder, Stuart Holden and he has agreed to come over the pond.

Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti told FOX 26 Sports:

'Stuart is going on trial with Burnley, a club in the English Premier League. What that means is he will train with Burnley and play in some of their reserve games and the team will then decide if it wants to sign Stuart.'

Holden is a USA international born in Aberdeen, Scotland and he holds a British passport so he would not need a work permit to come and play in England. The player, who was briefly on Sunderland`s books in 2005 before returning to the US to sign for MSL side,Houston Dynamo is currently out of contract and is understood to have pursued several options in the UK including clubs in Scotland.

He is an attacking midfielder and can play in the centre of midfield or on either wing. Holden has scored 15 goals in 88 appearances for Dynamo and currently has 12 caps for the USA team having also scored a couple of times for the national side. It is expected that he will part of the USA 2010 World Cup squad and will be travelling out to South Africa for the competition in the summer, where of course he could be playing against England in their World Cup opener.

This looks to be good news. We would now appear to have first refusal having beaten off competition from local rivals Blackburn Rovers, a club linked to Holden recently by the Daily Mirror

Agreed, and the fact that he has 12 caps shows that he is no mug...game on!

Who ever we bring in I just want to see them play. If we are strengthening the squad in January do so with players you are going to play, not players you have to develop for 6 months.

Hmmm, interesting maybe this is our USA links coming to fruition a bit. Like to see what he can do, we could do with more options in midfield.

He's a decent player. He should be going to the World Cup. Houston Dynamo play some good football when they want to.
