Edgar Sorted , Eckersley Not

The Clarets have agreed a fee with Newcastle United for defender David Edgar.

It is understood Burnley will pay around £300,000 for Edgar as part of the compensation entitlement under the Bosman rules with Newcastle set to get more money depending on appearances.

However, the club have been unable to agree a fee with Manchester United for right back, Richard Eckersley and this will now have to go to a tribunal to resolve the matter.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Chief Executive Paul Fletcher confirmed the situation and said:

"We have an agreement with Newcastle - we`re waiting for the contract to arrive. But we`ve not come to the same agreement with Manchester United. We have informed the Premier League and they will set the tribunal"

Manchester United are believed to want £1 million for Eckersley, which is somewhat above the Clarets valuation of the player.

Interesting to see if Edgar is suddenly in the frame against Bolton with doubts over both Caldwell and Carlisle (both groin injuries) at the moment. Still some progress at last, one down, one to go!

Injuries aside, we're not eactly awash with defensive quality so surely Edgar will be in the squad now at the very least. Must be a doubt about match fitness so a starting berth might be a couple of games away but now that this wrangle is sorted let's hope we can see him in action soon.

The options in the back four are all getting a bit confusing. Don't forget we also have that new lad from Cork City,Kevin Long available in New Year

Bikey Duff Jordan and Edgar pick any 2? Against Bolton I would go with Bikey and Duff with Edgar on the bench and Jordan playing left back. That way Jordan supports what we have been good at, if Duff and Bikey isn't working bring on Edgar. I do not want to risk another calamity if Carlisle and Caldwell are not 100%.
