Clarets Player Mentions One of Vital Burnley's Own
Burnley FC's PR & Media manager,Darren Bentley read out a message during the Clarets Player broadcast of the City game on Saturday ensuring one of our journalists, Couch Potato got a bit of a buzz whilst giving the Editors of both Vital Burnley and When the Ball Moves...Fanzine a nice warm glow of satisfaction after a free plug.
Darren said the following:
'Geoffrey Mann, who lives in Dorset, says he listens to Clarets Player whenever he can, and also writes as Couch Potato in the fanzine When the Ball Moves, and on the Vital Burnley website. Thanks for letting us see an early copy of what will be in December's fanzine, Geoffrey, about your recent visit to the only ground at which the Clarets won an away game in a major European competition... thus far!!! '
The message was read out in between Alexander's goal from the penalty spot and the tap in by Fletcher with Darren reminding any listeners that they can ask for similar 'shouts'
Couch Potato has also given some positive feedback about Clarets Player and writes:
'Clarets Player is much better sound quality now, with transmission interruptions almost consigned to history and listening to Phil Bird and the various guys who partner him, including Darren B from time to time, is great. Highly recommended even if you are simultaneoulsy watching on 'IraqGoals', and only £39.95 a season.The emotions are always spot on. The intensity is fantastic. The gossip-free chat around the edges unfailingly interesting. My only complaint is that they don't stay on air at half time to give us the action from Pie 'n Chips!'
Incidentally we will soon be putting up an article from Couch Potato talking about the European grounds we have played at in the past so watch this space. This will cunningly answer also the conundrum posed by Darren's rhetorical question.

Till my next article does go up, everyone has one last chance at answering a question I posed in the last international break... What is the highest ever score in a World Cup Finals tournament?

Sorry , Dale... I need to clarify... what is the highest AGGREGATE score? Also, I might have asked where it happened and what was it, rather than just what was it... and it was buried in some other thread. Keep trying. :)

Highest aggregate - Will have to get my thinking cap on. I am normally reasonably good as a Statto, but fear this may have been before my time!

Even before my time... though only by a few months. And - hint - the answer is revealed, with reason, in my forthcoming Vital story about my recent visit to the site of Bfc's only away win in a major European competition thus far. Tmp and Barnsey are banned from answering. Especially Barnsey, which is another clue.

My shirt is on the Vital home page, though you have to scroll down to find it below yours Dale (which has to be wrong, but I have learned to live with it!). My age is on my shirt. That will tell you which year's WC tournament to look up (as long as you know that my birthday is two days after Pompey away!) Look up our European games in Clarets Chronicles - I think they are in the 'other games' section - or read Barnsey's comments in the latest WTBM at the end of my article... and you'll see where we won our only away game in a major European competition. Then, knowing the year and the place, go to Wikipedia, which has a good World Cup section... And, no, it isn't West Germany 3 Hungary 8 in the Group Stage. It's bigger than that. Keep going!

Claretdale - you are a star! Just so there's a record: the stadium that hosted the highest ever aggregate score in a World Cup finals game (thus far), and which is the site of Bfc's only away win in a major European tournament (thus far) is Le Stade Olympique de La Pontaise, home of Lausanne Sport. The rest's in WTBM...

Barnsey was at uni there for a few months and tells me that he followed Lausanne Sports, who had an 's' on the end of their name then, but not now, and he went to several games there. There's a picture of the stadium in the current WTBM. There's more about it, and BFC's links with it, in a story coming soon on Vital, and then more in the next WTBM.
