The media is full of gossip and news surrounding Hull City, the team we play this Saturday.
We reported yesterday the dire financial straits the club are in following their late submission of accounts to Companies House and the revelation that the club was already £10 million in debt.
The club will be desperate to avoid relegation in order to survive too much financial hardship but it's not looking good at the moment with Hull City third from bottom.
The auditors, Deloitte have warned that the club will need a £23 million surplus in order to meet current liabilities.
It is perhaps not surprising therefore that there is no confidence in the current boardroom with a shake up on the cards.
Hull City chairman, Paul Duffen (pictured above with Phil Brown) is believed to have been relieved of his duties following a meeting on Monday evening.
Vital Hull believe he will be replaced by Adam Pearson before our match with them at Turf Moor although his exact role is not yet known or indeed his appointment confirmed. Pearson resigned from his position as Chairman of Derby County last night and looks set to return to the club he left in 2007.
A change at the top will also cast doubt on the future of manager Phil Brown. Speculation yesterday suggested he would be sacked this week with some already believing he was no longer at the KC Stadium.
Hull City eventually issued an official statement on their website which read:
'Contrary to media speculation the club can confirm that Phil Brown has not been sacked and remains the manager of Hull City Football Club.'
So the question now remains for how long? If we turn Hull City over on Saturday, will Brown once more be under the cosh trying to keep his job?
If all this was not bad enough for the club, there is news today that their number one Welsh international goalkeeper, Boaz Myhill failed to train this week and now looks doubtful to play against the Clarets at Turf Moor. Brown may have to choose between Tony Warner and Matt Duke. Duke has been the main understudy to Myhill and impressed last season but Warner has also been named on the bench a number of times this season.
With Brian Jensen also recovering from a slight ankle ligament injury after limping off against Wigan on Saturday, the Hull game could be pretty unique with a deputy goalkeeper in the starting eleven of both teams
