Elliott in the Clear

Wade Elliott has been cleared by the FA and will not therefore face a FA charge and ban following a clash with Blackburn's French defender, Pascal Chimbonda on Sunday in the local derby against Blackburn. The incident happened shortly after Robbie Blake scored in the 5th minute.

Elliott was alleged to have planted his foot into the face of Chimbonda; an incident which went unnoticed by the referee and the other officials.

The fear was that Chris Foy, the referee of the derby, after being asked to look at the video footage by the FA, might have decided that it was a red card offence thus condemning Wade Elliott to a ban and fine.

However a FA spokesperson said:

"Mr Foy said that based on the footage he has seen and taking the cirumstances into consideration, he cannot say for sure he would have shown a red card. Under the rules we are only permited to take retrospective action if the referee says he would have shown a red card. On that basis we will not take any further action against Wade Elliott."

Well done Wado and thank you Mr Foy!

"Well done Wado" ...and well done Mr Jensen! Seriously though, it was a horrible moment, along with Carlisle's 2 footed lunge on Dunn.

Justice has been done. It is always a horrible moment when a player's boot comes into proximity with a player's face. But when that happens because the two players fall over into a heap and both try to get back on their feet, it's not possible to decide whether there was an intent to kick someone in the face, or whether it was an accident. I hope Chimbonda was not hurt in this incident, which followed on from the foul that he committed; he certainly seemed to be okay. I am relieved that Elliott has not been punished without there being clear evidence on which to base a judgement. When was Carlisle's alleged 2-footed lunge? When is the inquest into what Di Santo's arm was doing on Jordan's back, and into whether that interference with play began while he was in an offside position when the R***r headed the ball back into the goalmouth? Of course, that inquest isn't going to happen; just like it isn't going to happen that R***rs have more points than the Clarets at the end of October. Case closed: R***rs are in the bottom half of the table and doomed to go down. Up the Clarets!
