'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Will Pollitt Be Back at the Turf on Saturday?

The Clarets play Wigan at Turf Moor in their next Premier League match this Saturday.

Wigan currently have two major injury concerns. Austrian international central defender and midfielder, Paul Scharner has a hip injury and their goalkeeper, England international, Chris Kirkland dislocated a finger during Wigans 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

Kirkland played on for the full 90 minutes after attempting to put the digit back in place.

Hs is set to undergo a scan on his injury this week

Latics boss Roberto Martinez speaking to the Wigan Evening Post had this to say about Kirkland's injury:

'We'll be having all the scans and all the tests possible to find out the extent of the injury. At the moment we feel it might only be a dislocated finger but we need to see exactly what the situation is and we'll find out more over the next 24 hours.'

Kirkland talking to the same paper said:

'I'll need to go to hospital to see what's happened, but it doesn't look very pleasant. I wouldn't like to say what it might be, but something needs to be done because I can't even bend my finger.I came out for a cross and Adebayor caught me with his arm. It knocked me off balance and the ball's just hit me right on the finger,'Clunk' I got the 'clunk' out of it, but then took my glove off and saw it was still bent out of all shape. I knew I hadn't done it right, which is when I called the physio over, and I said to him: 'We've got a bit of a problem'.I'm hoping it's just a bad sprain, but it can't stay like this because I won't be able to play with it how it is. It's just not normal.'

If Kirkland does not make it, Clarets fans could see the return to Turf Moor of their former loan keeper, Mike Pollitt.

We would probably have seen him anyway, but he would just be taking up his position on the bench rather than actually making the starting eleven.

Pollitt, now 37 signed a new one-year contract with Wigan in May 2009 and played four matches for the Clarets after signing for them on a one month loan in January 2007. At the time Danny Coyne was injured and former gaffer, Steve Cotterill decided he needed emergency cover preferring to play the Wigan stopper ahead of Brian Jensen. He was however recalled by Wigan due to an injury to Kirkland just before he was scheduled to play his final match under the loan spell.

Pollitt has had limited opportunity in the first team at Wigan having made just 32 appearances for the club since signing for them from Rotherham in June 2005.

Don't think Pollitt has played in the first team this season so could be rusty if Kirkland doesn't make it. Might improve our chances of winning although he is Mr Dependable usually

Can't remember to much about him to be honest, obviously I saw him play but can't actually remember how good he was.

He only actually played one game for us at home in those four matches and we lost that one 1-0 against Stoke! The three aways were not much better although he kept a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw at Southampton. We lost 1-0 away to Derby though and then 3-1 to QPR

Chris Kirkland and Paul Scharner rated as 50-50 now
