Elliott Sweats Over Potential Ban

Wade Elliott is waiting to see if he will face a FA charge and ban following a clash with Blackburn's French defender,Pascal Chimbonda on Sunday in the local derby against Blackburn. The incident happened shortly after Robbie Blake scored in the 5th minute.

Elliott is alleged to have planted his foot into the face of Chimbonda; an incident which went unnoticed by the referee and the other officials.

According to The Sun, St Helens referee, Chris Foy will now be asked to look again at the incident and decide if it should have been a red card. A spokesman for the FA also last night confirmed Elliott was under investigation for the alleged offence.

A decision could be made as early as later today so both Elliott and all Clarets fans are now sweating waiting for the verdict.

Nobody seems to have made an issue of this other than Rovers gaffer, Sam Allardyce. Big Sam said after the match

'There was one incident I thought was nasty with Wade Elliott on Chimbonda. When you see it again you'll see what I mean.'

I don't recall seeing this on Sky and thinking Elliott could be in trouble here so let's hope the referee and FA take the same view. With McCann already out in midfield for the next couple of months or so and Guerrero struggling with a hamstring injury, this would be the worse possible time for a ban although it should at least confirm a starting eleven place for Chris Eagles, one of the few players that impressed in the 3-2 defeat at Ewood Park.

Oh feck, how much more do we have to suffer! Let's hope common sense prevails. Come on Chris do right by us!

Can't see Elliot being banned under the circumstances. I think we would lodge an appeal if he was.

I missed Wade's foot part of that incident - and was outraged at the time as to why the free kick was given against us, given that Chimbonda had pushed Wade over while making no attempt to get the ball. It was that dubious free kick that started the attack that led to the equaliser. If we'd have had an attacking free kick at that point, how different the following few minutes of play might have been.

I remember the incident and thought at the time that Wade's boot had ended up near Chimbonda's face, but it just looked like one of those things that happen when two players fall over and end up in a tangle, and definitely not a stamp, or anything malicious. To me the thing that backs this up is that there was no crowd reaction. It was on the far touch line from the SKY cameras, centrefield, right in front of Blackburn fans. The two Ars fans I was watching with, who could be described as 'hard but fair' said nothing. Maybe while they are at it the FA will look again at Di Santo's push and give him a card?

"Elliott is alleged to have planted his foot into the face of Chimbonda" It was on MOTD and it was filthy... wouldnt be suprised if he got banned.

I didn't see this either? I remember the incident and don't remember anybody else watching it with me saying anything! Hopefully he won't get a ban and plays against Wigan.

I was there and all I remember was all us Clarets fans wondering why they got a free kick when it was as NP said. If they are to look at that I agree with CP they need to look at DI Santo's push pity they can't take the goal away and 2 points from them and give us a point lol.

No news yet, if they made a decision today it has not broke in the media so far

I think this one could be bad news. Hope not but not holding my breath.

Well we should know today (Wed 21st Oct)

I saw it. Thought it was perhaps a bit of "afters." But, of course, Chimbonda made a meal of it. Some footballers ought to play rugby for a season. Soon toughen 'em up.

Keeping fingers crossed all day today (wed) .
