Rumour Mill-Matthew Kilgallon Linked Again

According to the Daily Mail today, Matthew Kilgallon has been unable to agree terms with Sheffield United and looks unlikey to be signing a new contract at Bramall Lane.

The 25 year old defender could now be on his way in the January window to the highest bidder with three clubs showing potential interest in the player,Bolton, Wigan and the Clarets. The former England Under 21 international is believed to be worth £5 million.

This is not the first time we have been linked with Kilgallon, there was mention of a potential move to Turf Moor in the Summer transfer window but nothing came of it.

Kilgallon claims that no new deals were tabled by the club, something which United deny. They state their offers were turned down by the former Leeds United defender.

It is no secret that Kilgallon has ambitions of playing in the top flight and in a bizarre twist of fate it was the Clarets who took that chance away from him after beating United in the Championship Play-Offs Final at Wembley last May.

Kilgallon was signed from Leeds United by Neil Warnock in January 2007 for £1.75 million rising to £2 million and with a 20% sell on clause. He was voted Sheffield United Player of the Season at the end of the 2008-9 season.

£5 million seems a lot and one wonders what his salary demands would be. Would think Bolton or Wigan would be better placed to sign him. Would be a good signing, but do we need another defender?

Let Bolton have Kilgallon for £5m and Super Gary come to us on a free. Dare to dream!

Let's get both! Bikey the new age midfielder, the Caldwells, Carlisle and Kilgallon fighting it out for two centre back positions. I haven't even mentioned Duff and Edgar!

We get no mention in latest media rumour (Tue 20th Oct)-Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon will leave the Blades in January after rejecting a new £20,000-a-week contract. The £4m-rated 25-year-old is wanted by Wigan, Bolton, Celtic and Middlesbrough ( Daily Mirror )
