Celtic defender, Gary Caldwell has once more been linked with a move to Burnley.
The Scottish News of the World today believes Owen Coyle will be keen to sign the 27 year old in the January window and that he will able to meet Caldwell's wage expectations.
Caldwell will be out of contract at the end of the 2009-10 season and will be allowed to speak to interested parties in the New Year.
The Scottish International is understood to be after a significant pay rise but according to the News of the World he is only currently on £8000 per week anyway.
Caldwell is quoted as saying:
'I have had talks with Tony Mowbray, but I am not going to reveal what I said. However, I can say there have been no new developments concerning my contract.'
It is understood he would want to double his salary and that this figure would not be too far away from the reported £15,000 cap that Burnley FC have applied to salaries.
Should Gary come to Turf Moor, he will of course be joining brother Steven and that would certainly make the fight for back four places even more competitive and may even test brotherly love to the limit! Caldwell is also the stand-in captain for Celtic when Stephen McManus isn't playing so there could even be rivalry to lead the team.
The paper goes on to suggest that Coyle could make a bid of around £250,000 during the transfer window rather than wait and get him on a free Bosman at the end of the season.
This is not the first time we have been linked to Gary Caldwell and the rumour refuses to go away.
Gary Caldwell came through Celtic's youth system before joining Newcastle United in 1997. He was eventually given a free transfer after a number of loan spells and joined Hibernian during the second half of the 2003-04 season. He signed a pre-contract agreement to join Celtic in the summer of 2006 and has since made nearly 100 appearances for the Buoys.
