The really good news first of all is that Graham Branch has signed a new one year contract. Branchy, I know divides opinion but his performances this season have been examplary and in my opinion he has been the most improved player to watch. He always gives 100% and you can virtually play him anywhere. He is a confidence player and I believe his performaces are affected by the boo-boy contingent getting on his back. This year they found a new anti-hero in Gifton Noel Williams, so Branchy I think was able to relax more and play better!
Its no coincidence that Branchy featured heavily in last night's Player of the Year Awards but more of that later!
Lets finish this part on a positive note thanking Branchy for all the effort he has put in over the years and congratulating him on his new contract. I,for one hope he achieves his ambition of ending his footballing days with the Clarets and hope that wont be for a few seasons yet!
Now lets take the Branch line and change at Crewe. It is all change at Crewe as well, with their unfortunate relegation leading to speculation of a number of players leaving the club. We have already been linked to Steve Jones and now today it would appear that yet again we have been linked to that player you have to name carefully! Kenny Lunt, who we were supposedly interested in way back in the close season of 2005, is now once more reportedly on his way to Turf Moor! Oh well, more rumour and gossip! Just have to take it all on our chin and see what Steve comes up with during the close season!
We shall have to see if Steve Jones and Kenny Lunt become nominations for the Clarets Player of the Year awards in 2007. Thats what you call a journalist link to bring the topic onto the Offical Player of the Year awards for 2006!
These were held last night with about 300 Burnley supporters coming along to the James Hargreaves Executive Suite.
I wont bore you with all the fine detail as this is now reported in full on the Official Clarets Site but instead will just summarise the winners and give you an opinion. So here goes:
Game of the Season
Luton-Totally agree with that one, marvellous outing and what a day, fitting that Spicer accepted this award after his cameo Keeper role in the game. Ade's hat-trick in a 2-3 away win with 10 men and Spicer in goal! Fantastic
Goal of the Season
Graham Branch for that great goal at home to Watford! I would have to say although it was not nominated, my choice would have been the Andy Gray goal against Norwich because of that crafty backflick and turn and because it was so important after our bad run of form and lack of goals in matches post-Xmas!
Young Player of the Season
No contest really as Chris McCann took the honours over Kyle Lafferty
Player of the Year
The nominated players were Graham Branch, Micah Hyde, Frank Sinclair, and Jon Harley!
I actually knew the result of this a few days ago when my mate on the inside spilt the beans. It was however a close run thing between Branch and Harley. Harley was the winner which may have surprised a few. He was not even on my shortlist and I was surprised to see my choice John McGreal not even being nominated.
Graham Branch therefore returning to my original subject, featured heavily in last night's nominations and awards and its to his credit after a great season
Once again, well done Graham and here is a reminder to take note of Claptrapper's appeal 'Calling All Branchettes'. Lets all applaud the chap and wave those 'Special Branch' banners at our last game of the season against Luton this Sunday.
