Rumour Mill-Zenden or is it a load of Bolo?

Rumour Mill-Zenden or is it a load of Bolo?

Burnley and Hull are both in competition to sign 33 year old Dutch international winger Bolo Zenden. Who says so? Well the Sun newspaper for one.

Boudewijn 'Bolo' Zenden is currently a free agent after his contract at Marseille expired.

He has expressed a desire to see out his career in England and had been linked recently with a move to both Blackburn and Portsmouth.

It is understood though that Portsmouth lost interest in the player after he asked for 1.7 million Euros for the season!(£20k/week)

If true it is that fact alone that makes the link to Burnley even more unbelievable and one wonders if the media have got the two East Lancashire rivals mixed up. Stoke as well as Hull and Burnley have also recently been rumoured to be interested.

Clarets fans will remember Zenden from his days with Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Liverpool.

He started his career with PSV Eindhoven in 1985 coming through their youth system before making the left wing position in the first team his own.

Zenden joined Barcelona in 1998 before signing for Chelsea for £7.5 million at the end of the 2000-01 season.

He struggled with many injuries at Stamford Bridge and failed to make any impression in the first team. Zenden signed on loan with Middlesbrough for the 2003-4 season and finally began to make an impact in the UK.

His contract with Chelsea expired in the summer of 2004 and he then made a permanent move to Middlesbrough on a free transfer, signing a one-year contract.

During this spell he played most of his games in a central midfield role and was Middlesbrough fans Player of the Year for 2005.

However in July 2005 at the end of his contract he joined Liverpool who had just been crowned UEFA Champions League champions.

His time at Anfield was plagued with injuries including cruciate ligament damage.

After being released by Benitez, Zenden signed a 2 year contract with Olympique Marseille in July 2007.

Naw, I think someone has got their wires crossed here

Not sure, as rumours (in respect of sport) in the Sun are usually bang on. Time will tell.

Plays on the left, right? There does seem to be a shared view that the left is an area we need a bit more strength in depth, with players who can both defend and attack. But I would be surprised if we paid £20k a week to anyone at the moment.

With those wage demands I would be very suprised if we sign him. Coyle as already come out and said the ceiling is £15,000. Also he is older than the players that Coyle has previously looked at.

Coyle may pay the £20,000 wage bill, I know its more than the ceiling Coyle set. However, he's a free agent so no initial outlay.
09/09/2009 12:01:00
I think you'll find that 1.7m euros is nearer to £30k a week
09/09/2009 12:25:00
No way, don't think I would want him. Why would you pay £20 odd thousand pounds a week for him. Guerrero looks a good signing, we also have Eagles, I really can't see it.
09/09/2009 12:41:00
Something well off with this one the wage & his age is way out from the Coyle plan mid 20's max can't see it myself.

agree with many above - cant see this one coming off
