Vital Burnley Prediction League-August 09 Update

About 30 of our posters are currently playing Vital Burnley's Prediction League 09-10 with the chance to win 50.

After the first month of games and a maximum of 12 points to play for here is the August update.

Vital Burnley Prediction League 2009-10-August 2009 Update

Similar to the performances by the Clarets on the pitch, the Prediction League has also started off well! Some people seem to be using their head, whereas others are clearly totally dominated by their heart.

It could be an interesting battle to see which of these methods will be victorious come the end of the season.

Grimsby Claret is the early leader having achieved 100% from the Everton and Chelsea games to make up for the poor start (0 points from the opening 2 games). BigClaret is the closest challenger at this stage being just one point behind.

The early frontrunners are show below:

Please note all the other players currently have a score of 2 or below and a full table will be provided every 3 months. If you are not in the frontrunners table and want to know your exact score and position, please contact the site at any time.

About the Prediction League

Any new members are still welcome to enter and the Average Points per Game figure(Av. PPG) figure in the tables will allow you to see how you are doing in relation to those who have been predicting from the start.

Remember, to win a prize at the end of the season you have to have predicted at least 50% of our Premier League Fixtures. You get 3 points for the correct result and score, two points for correct result and goal difference but wrong score and one point for the correct result (win, draw, lose) but wrong score and wrong goal difference.

The winner at the end of 2009-10 will receive 50, the runner-up 25 with 10 for third place.

If you want to enter, you simply go to our The New 2009-10 Prediction League forum and register your interest on this thread:

Sign up here to play in 2009/10-You Could Win 50!

Individual threads will then be put up so you can make your predictions for the games played in each month. You can currently predict for the League games in September (Liverpool,Sunderland and Spurs)

Predictions for Cup matches will not be taken into account for the table but could be taken into consideration if there is a tie for the first three places at the end of the season.

Could have sworn I had prediced a defeat at Stoke, a defeat at Chelsea and a win over Everton! Oh well. Memory plays strange tricks. I'll keep my betting slips from now on. :)

Recount! The forum records support my case! :) I probably confused the scorer somehow, by intially casting a 'spoiled vote' for the Stoke game, but then clearly saying 3-1 to them in a subsequent submission, and then rambling on a bit (as usual) in my Chelsea prediction before saying 3-1 to them.

Couch potato - No problem in querying the postings at all - If you think its wrong, give us a shout. A formulated excel spreadsheet may have a digit in the wrong place or something :-) However, the 3-1 at Stoke got you 2 points, the 2-2D with Utd got you 0, the 2-0 v Everton got you 1, the 3-1 at Chelsea got you 1 - Total 4! Happy? :-)

You got me confused now Dale, its 3 points for an accurate result & score and one for right result, wrong score. 2 points for Stoke?

Oh, and cheers turfman for taking me down to just 3 points. Now I understand. :) The August achivement of Grimsby Claret grows with every rereading of the rule book.

TMP - 3 points for the correct scoreline, 2 points for the correct result and GD ( ie. predict 3-1, actual 2-0), 1 point for correct result. I think thats what we agreed?

Not a problem since you have started doing it that way Dale carry on, will just amend rules slightly. I posted above and I think elsewhere 3 and 1 not 3,2 and 1 but no worries

Am going walking in the Alps for a fortnight from Sep 19, and will be going to Lausanne (who we beat in Fairs Cup) vs Schaffhausen. Nyon is next stop on the train. Should I take this up with UEFA while I am there?

Think Blatter and Platini would have a field day - Dale and Phil could find themselves faced with something of a European cold shoulder whilst matters are ' investigated '.

Sorry lads you may have to revisit the rules. How can you have 2 pts for the correct goal difference but not correct score? What happens if you predict a draw at 1-1 but the result was actually 2-2 you get 1 pt for the correct result, but you can never get 2 pts when a draw is forecasted because if you get the risgt score you get 3pts.

acchio - If you correctly predict a draw, the minimum you will get is 2 points. If you get the result right, you also get the goal difference. You will never get 1 point. The reason I put the rules as such is to give some benefit to 'close' predictions.
