Rumour Mill-Garvan, an Owen for an Owen?

Burnley have had a £1 million bid accepted for Ipswich Town 21 year old midfielder Owen Garvan according to national and local Suffolk media sources today.

Ipswich have had a bad start to their 2009-10 campaign in the Championship and are currently second from bottom with just one point from four games. They were also dumped out of the Carling Cup by local Championship new boys Peterborough in midweek losing 2-1 at Posh in the second round clash.

It is understood Roy Keane wants to boost his war chest and sell those players he does not think have a future at Portman Road.

Keane told Owen Garvan this week he was such a player having been put on the transfer list. The player however is still contracted to Ipswich until June 2011

Garvan born in Dublin is a Republic of Ireland Under 21 international. He spent his youth career with Home Farm in Ireland; the same team that brought on Chris McCann before he signed for the Clarets.

Joining Ipswich in November 2004 he has since made over 140 appearances for the Tractor Boys.

The Summer transfer window closes at 5 pm on Tuesday 1st September next week so one can understand the urgency for managers to seal deals quickly with the shutters about to come down.

Not sure about this one, do we really want one of Roy Keane's Championship rejects? He is a good age though

One of the guys at work is an Ipswich fan and he was really upset at this rumour. That says to me he is a good signing.

Yeah would be interesting to know what Ipswich think of Keane's clear-out plans! Looks like he will be getting rid of some of the old favourites and bringing in loads from Sunderland! Dont know too much about Garvan to be honest but if Coyle thinks he could make step up to Prem who am I to argue? You OK Steve not spoken to you in ages?

Keane as a manager always makes me laugh! his way or the byway, don't know to much about this lad but you just cannot argue with Coyle can you his record speaks for itself.

I am not surprised Roy Keane is attempting to raid Sunderland for new players as he did have a number of good ones there when winning the Championship. I am not so sure whether they would want to step down from the Premiership though and probable loss of wages. Clearly a lot of players find Keane extremely difficult to work with and he is quite ruthless with them at times. The Fans at Ipswich are likely to be dismayed at dismantling the team unless of course Keane transforms them into a winning side. As for Garvan I am not sure about taking him on but if OC rates him then maybe this could be the cover for Alexander that we desperately need. OC will certainly motivate him in a way that Keane obviously can't. I hope we manage to get the deal done before the transfer window closes.

Town boss Roy Keane has admitted he knows nothing about the reported £1M bid for Owen Garvan from Premiership new boys Burnley. Speaking to the Ipswich Evening Star, the former Sunderland boss said: "No, not that I'm aware, but sometimes managers are the last to know. I've had no phone call from Burnley, their manager has not been in contact with me.I'm not going to say that any of my players are not for sale. I've said to managers it's up to them to make us an offer."
