Clarets International News from Scotland

Steven Fletcher, Steven Caldwell and Graham Alexander have all been named in Scotland's 25 man squad as they prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifing games against Macedonia and Holland at Hampden Park in September.

George Burley's men face Macedonia on Saturday 5th before playing against Holland on Wednesday 9th.

FYR Macedonia are currently 2nd in the Group 9 table, ahead of Scotland in 3rd place on goal difference. Norway who easily defeated Scotland 4-0 in Oslo in their last match are just one point behind in 4th.

Holland have already qualified and are certain to finish top having won all seven of their games so far.Iceland prop up the table.

Caldwell will be hoping to forget the match in Oslo and if selected will want to do better than last last time. Steven Caldwell picked up a yellow card and was lucky not to follow his brother Gary who was sent off in the game. He was also replaced later in the game after picking up a groin injury to complete a thoroughly bad night for the Burnley captain. That injury too has kept him out of the Clarets side since so he will be keen to get back into action as soon as possible and be fully fit in time for Scotland's games.

The news from the Scottish camp means that the Clarets will now have four players out on International duty during the break. Vital Burnley announced earlier that Martin Paterson had been selected for Northern Ireland.

They all better come back fully fit and injury-free with the Clarets next game after the International break being against Liverpool at Anfield.

Wonder if Fletcher will get a chance to play for Scotland this time? He badly needs a goal for the Clarets in my opinion soon. He has come close but often seems to scuff his attempts and shoot too high or wide.
