Rumour Mill- Keeping Ben Alnwick?

Owen Coyle is trying to tempt Tottenham into selling £1m-rated goalkeeper Ben Alnwick according to the Sun newspaper today.

Most Clarets fans would find this difficult to believe but if true does tend to suggest the club might not have too much faith in second-string goalkeeper Diego Penny.

Penny has made just one appearance for the Clarets since signing from Peruvian side Coronel Bolognesi in June 2008. He was expected to become the first choice keeper and was given the Number One shirt.

He made his debut for the club in the opening game of the 2008/9 season on 9 August 2008 against Sheffield Wednesday.

We got tonked 4-1 that day and although the problem was more defensive errors in the back four, he was instantly dropped and has not played for the Clarets since.

Brian Jensen though has been in awesome form and has not suffered any injuries keeping Penny sidelined.

Ben Alnwick is currently out on loan with Norwich City but went off injured during last night's 4-1 defeat to Sunderland.

The 22 year old was an England Under 21 International and started his professional career with Sunderland.

Alnwick joined Tottenham Hotspur for £900,000 during the January Transfer window of 2007 with Márton Fülöp going the other way for £500,000.

He has since spent a number of short spells out on loan. Norwich is the 4th club to take him on loan but he has also had loan spells at Luton, Leicester and Carlisle.

Clarets fans may well remember Alnwick. He made his debut for Tottenham in the Football League Cup semi-final second leg against Burnley at Turf Moor last season. In July 2009 however he signed on loan at Norwich City for three months.
