Bikey Signs In Time for United Match

Controversial centre-back, Andre Bikey has today signed for the Clarets for an undisclosed fee having agreed a three-year contract.

It is understood that the Clarets may have paid Reading in the order of £2.8 million to secure the strong, powerful 24 year old's services.

The Cameroon International now looks set to make his debut in the home baptism of fire game against Manchester United at Turf Moor on Wednesday night (19th August)

Burnley currently have a number of injury problems in the back four with captain, Steven Caldwell out injured with a thigh strain and Michael Duff still struggling with an ankle injury. David Edgar though will also ve available for the clash against the Red Devils after returning from a one match suspension.

Andre Bikey was controversially sent off in Reading's game against the Clarets in the Play-Offs Semi-Final first leg at Turf Moor last season.

He had stamped on Robbie Blake and was shown the red card. He then proceeded to see red again and in a tantrum took off his shirt and threw it to the floor in disgust before being escorted off the pitch by Reading keeper, Marcus Hahnemann (now with Wolves)

He was disciplined by the FA, picked up a five match ban and heavily fined by the Royals.

Bikey will have completed the five-match ban he was handed for improper conduct when Reading play Swansea tonight so it is this technicality that allows Bikey to be considered for the United match. This loophole also allowed Sebastien Bassong to play for Spurs last Sunday after last season's suspension at Newcastle.

Bikey (full name André Stéphane Bikey Amugu) started his professional career with Espanyol in 2002. After a brief spell with Paços de Ferreira in 2004 he moved to Shinnik Yaroslavl in Russia, before signing for Lokomotiv Moscow in July 2005. Reading agreed a season-long loan deal in August 2006 with the Royals having an option to purchase the player at the end of the loan.

In April 2007 Bikey signed a three-year contract with Reading for a transfer fee believed to be over £1 million.

Welcome aboard Andre, you must surely be the most surprise signing of the Summer!

Good luck Andre. Ade became a cult hero after being sent off just a few minutes into his debut. Glad you have got that out of your system before actually starting for us, and hoping you'll become a cult hero too. Welcome.

Well I think he's a good signing, if you go on 606 boards all the Reading fans thinks he's fantastic. Big powerful centre back. Should be able to rough up some strikers!

Just had a though after reading Sky sports, Bikey will go to Africa Cup of Nations in January and we will lose him for a month!

Its his pace which is important for me , somthing we have been lacking for a while , I think he is a passionate player who wants to win and I hope he doesnt change that part of his game , I think we look stronger at the back than anytime I can remember , with 5 solid centre halfs in Bikey , Carlisle , Edgar , Caldwell & Duff , 2 pacey full-backs , Mears & Eckersley and 3 left backs in Kalvenes , Easton & Jordan , good squad in my opinion now , good mix of youth , experience ,pace , energy and skill !

In Coyle I trust.....what an ace signing, showing OC is not predictable in the transfer market and unafraid to back his own judgement of a player. Hats off to OC and Bikey who both want to be winners.

We certainly have choices now in the back four although left back to me is still an area of weakness. Both Kalvenes & Jordan have looked exposed there at times and young Brian Easton looks like he will be a fringe player this season

You don't want much, do you TMP? I think we need a 10-15 goal striker and another central midfielder before we are "sorted"...

Get the feeling we are done now except maybe for a loan or two, and yes midfield and attack are now the areas to consider if we do get anybody else in

"Should be able to rough up some strikers!" Why oh why should we need that. All we need is a defender who is not intimidated by robust strikers but who is smart enough and quick enough to make a telling but fair challenge when required. Burnley have not usually been renowned as a "clogging" club although I do recall one or two players with more brawn than brain. Of course any supporter wants a player to flourish and bring credit to this club of ours, but the behaviour of this player in the play off match at Turf Moor was quite unacceptable to both Reading and Burnley. Let us hope he can quickly demonstrate his footballing skills and all will be well.

Just heard him on the Clarets Player, he comes across as quite a nice chap actually. He is clearly embarassed by the shirt antics and openly admits his new teammates have already been ribbing him about it.

By roughing up McIlroyfan, I mean not giving them an inch, ensuirng that thye know your there and giving them something to think about. I don't mean doing anything illgeal of fouling. Its just about having a presence. My Example would be drogba/heskey/carew, all three big powerful lads. If you watch them they rough up centre backs. Robust challenges for headers, competing in tackles. Just having a bit of steel about them. I like beautiful free flowing football and I don't like players who foul, but you also have to have the physical side of the game.

OC has that many choices at the back now it makes last year seem a million light years ago. Now it must be OC to pick the best 4 for each game and for us to second guess before. Hence back four of Mears, Carlisle, Bikey and Kalvenes is who I think he will go for. Not my choice I add.

Smart bet says Carlisle will be dropped and it will be Bikey & Edgar in centre of back four flanked by Mears & Kalvenes. Eckersley will hopefully come on at some point against his old club

No chance , Carlisle has been excellent last season and at Stoke , Mears , Carlisle , Bikey , Jordan i'd guess !

I would guess Mears, Carlisle, Bikey and Kalvenes with Edgar and Eckersley on the bench.

Bikey was awesome against Man U considering he hadn't played in five games and had to get used to a new set of team mates in a day. In fact the whole of the back four stood their ground well
