Clarets Falling On Their Essien!

A report in the People today by Alan Nixon reveals that the Clarets refused to pay more than £60/week to a potential young apprentice named Michael Essien. Yes the Michael Essien! The 26 year old Chelsea and Ghana International back four and midfield utility player.

Why? Because the apprentice policy at the club at the time was fixed at a maximum of £60/week.

The fact is revealed in Brendan Flood's new book,Big Club, Small Town and Me published by TH Media, Derbyshire

Flood said:

'I discovered Michael Essien had been on trial here for a few days. One of the best players in the World Cup - and we hadn't signed him.The club policy meant we wouldn't pay an apprentice more than 60 quid a week.It smacked me in the face that the problem was a lack of communication within the club that stopped our youth guys making an exception to the rule.'

Well who cares!? Oh fecking hell!!!!!!!!

I havent read exactly what Flood has written but I am not sure how true this is. I believed that it was purely a few training sessions that Essien had took part in before he actually had a trial at United.

It aint true , but folk are gullible ! He was having a trial at Man yoo , he had a few days left after his trial & the manager at the hotel essien was staying at was a claret , with a conection at Gawthorpe , he arranged for him to train for 2 days with the youth team , was never a change of us signing him , everybody could see he was quality !

Heck so either Flood is being misquoted either literally or out of context by the People or we have a gullible Director on the Board? I am getting the book anyway so will read what exactly is being said

Tmp, can you get me a copy of Floodo's book too? Good to link up at Stoke. I think it's my round at Chelsea? Hope you have a good time on the Turf this week. It's going to be a while before I get up there sadly. But am going to Wado's Bashley on Saturday.
