Coyle on Bikey Confirming Interest

Coyle on Bikey Confirming Interest

Burnley gaffer, Owen Coyle has confirmed speculation in the media that Burnley FC are interested in bringing powerful but controversial Reading defender, Andre Bikey to Turf Moor

Speaking on the Official Burnley website he said:

'I have made an enquiry, but he is one of a number of players we have made an enquiry about.I made it to Reading and that is in the public domain, for whatever reason, but we will have to see how that goes. If we were going to be talking about every player we had been linked with, or made a general enquiry about, then it would get quite tiresome. There are a number of players who we feel could enhance our squad and time will tell whether the aforementioned played is one of them'

The statement follows earlier speculation by the Mirror in particular that we were about to put in an improved offer of £2.8 million. Vital Burnley reported the rumour earlier this morning and you can read our article by clicking this link below:

Rumour Mill-Crikey, Bikey Deal Getting Close?

Reading manager,Brendan Rodgers though insists Andre Bikey is going nowhere despite rumours suggesting he will sign for Burnley today

'We've had a couple of inquiries with regards to Andre, but there's nothing to report,' Rodgers told the Reading Chronicle. 'He's here with us.'

Clarets fans will be hoping for a quick conclusion, one way or the other regarding this transfer possibility. We certainly don't want another long and protracted exchange like the Tudgay affair.

So it looks like the Mirror was at least half-right but maybe talks are not as advanced as they made out!

I wonder who else is on his radar? if we did sign Bikey would he not still be suspended for being sent off against us?

Yep think you are right. He got a four match ban, one being the second leg play-offs semi

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that the two clubs have agreed a fee for the 24-year-old.

Reading have had 2 games this season, so means only 1 match ban left? Stoke!
13/08/2009 19:40:00
I would agree with that Barnsey

Do cup ties count?
13/08/2009 20:01:00
yeah they count - domestic games

According to Skysports, he has picked up a five game ban, will need to check.Did the FA give him an extra one for good measure? ;-)

Rodgers now saying:"We've had a couple of enquiries with regards to Andre. We've taken that on board. We've had an offer and we'll wait and see on that one.If anyone goes it is going to take an extraordinary deal or the chance for them to play at a bigger level. I haven't got people banging on my door, crying to go. If anything it is the opposite." I reckon thats double-speak for Bikey will soon be a Claret since the tone is less bullish than previously
