The Clarets are one of the seeded teams in the Carling Cup second round draw tonight along with a number of other Premier League clubs including Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City who now enter the competition.
The draw will be shown live on Sky Sports News following the remaining first leg fixtures at about 10pm.
The second round games will take place on August 25 and 26.
We all know how well we did last season in this competition with Spurs spoiling our Wembley dreams in the semi-final second leg at Turf Moor in the last two minutes of extra time. Can we go one better this time? It seems strange after so many seasons in the Championship not being part of the first round battle. There were a few shocks from last night's matches though. Sheffield United who of course we beat at Wembley to secure promotion lost at home 1-2 to lowly League Two side Port Vale. There was egg on the face too for Derby who lost 2-1 away to another League Two side, Rotherham. Co-incidentally they also beat Accrington at home on Saturday in the opening League Two match and both are now in the hat after Accrington came from a goal down to beat League One side Walsall 2-1 at the Crown Ground. League Two, Hereford beat Charlton 1-0 at home and Plymouth went down 2-1 away to League One Gillingham.
Can Hartlepool cheer up Jeff Stelling tonight and beat Coventry away? Will Leicester fall to Macclesfield away and do Bradford stand any chance of an upset at the City Ground against Forest? We will soon find out
The full teams in the draw tonight are as follows:
Tottenham, West Ham, Manchester City, Wigan, Stoke, Bolton, Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Hull, Wolves, Birmingham, Burnley,
Newcastle, Middlesbrough, West Brom, Reading, Preston, Cardiff, Swansea, Ipswich, Bristol City, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford.
Doncaster, Crystal Palace, Blackpool, Coventry or Hartlepool, Nottingham Forest or Bradford, Barnsley, Macclesfield or Leicester, Peterborough, Scunthorpe.
Norwich, Southampton, Leeds, Millwall, Tranmere, Southend, Huddersfield, Bristol Rovers, Leyton Orient, Swindon, Carlisle, Gillingham, Hereford, Rotherham, Accrington Stanley, Port Vale
