Burnley in Hat for Carling Cup 2nd Round Draw

The Clarets are one of the seeded teams in the Carling Cup second round draw tonight along with a number of other Premier League clubs including Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City who now enter the competition.

The draw will be shown live on Sky Sports News following the remaining first leg fixtures at about 10pm.

The second round games will take place on August 25 and 26.

We all know how well we did last season in this competition with Spurs spoiling our Wembley dreams in the semi-final second leg at Turf Moor in the last two minutes of extra time. Can we go one better this time? It seems strange after so many seasons in the Championship not being part of the first round battle. There were a few shocks from last night's matches though. Sheffield United who of course we beat at Wembley to secure promotion lost at home 1-2 to lowly League Two side Port Vale. There was egg on the face too for Derby who lost 2-1 away to another League Two side, Rotherham. Co-incidentally they also beat Accrington at home on Saturday in the opening League Two match and both are now in the hat after Accrington came from a goal down to beat League One side Walsall 2-1 at the Crown Ground. League Two, Hereford beat Charlton 1-0 at home and Plymouth went down 2-1 away to League One Gillingham.

Can Hartlepool cheer up Jeff Stelling tonight and beat Coventry away? Will Leicester fall to Macclesfield away and do Bradford stand any chance of an upset at the City Ground against Forest? We will soon find out

The full teams in the draw tonight are as follows:

Tottenham, West Ham, Manchester City, Wigan, Stoke, Bolton, Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Hull, Wolves, Birmingham, Burnley,

Newcastle, Middlesbrough, West Brom, Reading, Preston, Cardiff, Swansea, Ipswich, Bristol City, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford.

Doncaster, Crystal Palace, Blackpool, Coventry or Hartlepool, Nottingham Forest or Bradford, Barnsley, Macclesfield or Leicester, Peterborough, Scunthorpe.

Norwich, Southampton, Leeds, Millwall, Tranmere, Southend, Huddersfield, Bristol Rovers, Leyton Orient, Swindon, Carlisle, Gillingham, Hereford, Rotherham, Accrington Stanley, Port Vale

Leeds and revenge would be sweet! Dont want to knock out Accrington, they need the money!! I want to go to Peterborough, they are just down the road to me!!

It has to be Forest at Forest.....its nearer than Peterborough for me and we would get loads of tickets with no drama. Ideally Lincoln City is my closest but the fools got beat....can't trust the Imps

Southend away might be alright for me too, not too far away and I could make it a day out at the seaside before the game!! lol

On this basis, for me it has to be Southampton away, and anyway I have finished eating all of the organges that they threw at us in April! Failing that, Accies on the Turf, because they'll get more money losing to us then than getting into next round, maybe.

Premiership has to be absolute priority. Your squad will be stretched to its limits in the premiership. Okay there are fewer League games than in the Championship but the inteensity is incredible.

Sounds like you & VinRogue should get together one near Lincoln and one in Grimsby!

I've got a ticket for the final day of The Ashes on the 24th. Assuming there is some play - which on the evidence of the last test is doubtful - there could be a few sherbets involved so a nice easy game on the 25th/26th will suit me. Wouldn't mind Norwich away but I guess for Burnley based Clarets that would be the last choice for an evening game.
