Rumour Mill-Clarets Getting On Their Bikey?

Rumour Mill-Clarets Getting On Their Bikey?

Remember Andre Bikey? He was the Reading defender, who in a fit of pique chucked a wobbly (and his shirt!) in our play-off semi-final first leg against Reading at Turf Moor!

He got a red card for a blatant foul after stamping on Robbie Blake and then saw red again going on a bizarre rampage, taking ages to take off his shirt and throw it to the ground in a rage!

Bikey was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association. The outcome led to Bikey being banned for four matches which included the second-leg defeat at the Madejski Stadium and he will now also miss the first three games of 2009-10.

Reading also hit Bikey with a two-week fine warning him about his future conduct.

So a bit of an hothead and not the first time he has been sent off chucking a tantrum

However if the rumours are true in the Mirror, Owen Coyle is about to make a £2.5 million bid for the centre half.

The 24-year-old Cameroon international appears to have impressed Coyle with his strong build and pace despite his temperament

It would appear Bikey has a clause in his contract that could force the Royals to sell him if a bid of £3 million comes in but Coyle is looking for a lower figure by way of a compromise.

One question on every Clarets fan's lips though must surely be do we really need another defender having already brought in Mears, Edgar, Easton and Eckersley to supplement Caldwell, Carlisle, Duff, Kalvenes, Jordan and Alexander?

Bikey started his professional career with Espanyol in 2002. After a brief spell with Paços de Ferreira in 2004 he moved to Shinnik Yaroslavl in Russia, before signing for Lokomotiv Moscow in July 2005. Reading agreed a season-long loan deal in August 2006 with the Royals having an option to purchase the player at the end of the loan.

In April 2007 Bikey signed a three-year contract with Reading for a transfer fee believed to be over £1 million.

I can't see OC going for him myself but what do i know

This must be the strangest rumour of the Summer! Bikey's hothead temper and antics just don't seem to fit with Coyle's mentality but as you say 8c8 what do we know?
10/08/2009 22:52:00
Maybe he likes his passion for the game? clutching at straws here who knows?
10/08/2009 23:18:00
There is no doubt he is a good player, but his career is littered with tantrums and red cards. Would that not be a liability and something we could well do without?
10/08/2009 23:22:00
He's a great player, I think, but his temperament MUST be in question. Also, not sure Robbie would be that happy?! We will see - maybe it's a smokescreen? If his 4 match ban started for the 2nd leg, then if he signs from Wednesday onwards, he would only miss the Stoke game!

No smokescreen !!

Who says?

Barnsey, if we do sign him, are you going on a WTBM Weird Weekend to Shinnik Yaroslavl? By the way, heard today from a Bashley fan who wants to meet up there on 22nd to talk about Wade's early days and bring along some press cuttings from that time. On the hothead issue, OC backs himself and his squad of players and coaches to turn around 'difficult' players.

Re. Bashley: excellent news - well done! I'm sure OC can turn around hotheads. It feels a bit weird spending so much on a defender, though. Up until now, I would guess that bringing Davis back from Luton would be our record fee for a defender?
11/08/2009 08:37:00
As you may know I will back OC for at least two years! I now believe, we can't go into games in the prem, in December, with no cover for say, Kalvenes (suspended 5 yellows) Cauldwell (suspended straight red) Mears (injured) Duff (injired). I am in favour of bringing in quality defenders to push for places and give adequate cover, not sure about Bikey though, is he quality only OC knows the Clarets answer to that one.
