Rumour Mill-Je T'Adore Jozy Altidore ?

The Clarets along with Hull City, Everton and Fulham are keen to sign Villarreal striker Jozy Altidore according to the Daily Mail. There is also reported interest from clubs in Greece and France as well as England although it is understood that no official approach has yet been made by any club.

The 19-year-old is a USA international forward who caught the eye during last month`s Confederations Cup after scoring the first goal in America's 2-0 win against Spain.

Jozy, full name Josmer Volmy 'Jozy' Altidore was born in Livingston, New Jersey and has sixteen caps to his name for the USA National Team having scored 7 goals.

He started his professional career with New York Red Bulls having come through the IMG Soccer Academy.Villarreal signed Altidore for roughly $10 million or €7.4 million in June 2008.

A club official from La Liga side, Villarreal told Sky Sports News today:

"It is still not decided where Altidore will go. We have some propositions and it is possible something will be decided by the end of the week."

Villareal could be keen to keep the player on their books although might be seeking a loan opportunity. Altidore was out on loan for part of last season to Xerez but a toe injury prevented him from making an appearance despite the club's successful promotion season in the Segunda División.

Fulham appear to be the frontrunners to sign him though although Hull are also thought to be well advanced in their interest.

Hoorah a new link at long last, but sadly other Prem clubs look more advanced!

Thought he looked a bit raw in Confed Cup, but his goal-scoring record is impressive. Do we need another big front man? Can only think it would be on a loan arrangement if he does come to Turf Moor. Suspect it's just media talk. Bwtfdik?

If he was purchased for €7m recently, how are we going to afford him now?

I am thinking if we are linked it might be more of a loan?

Would have to be I suppose - But how many strikers are we going to play with and therefore need in the squad?

I suppose its all about cover & tactical options more in the Premier League. Coyle could be supplementing the forward line options now very much like we have in defence. Look at the back-four options we have now-Eckersley, Mears, Duff, Alexander, Carlisle, Edgar, Caldwell, Jordan, Kalvenes, Easton. If we assume we play two up front and we aim for 2-3 times the cover, then we could have up to six forwards. So far we have Thompson, Paterson, Fletcher and Rodriguez, so one or two more might be a good idea?
