Bye,Bye Berisha & Bes of Luck!

The Clarets have agreed to sell Albanian International winger, Besart Berisha to German club, Arminia Bielefeld. He has today signed a three year contract with them.

Arminia Bielefeld who have been tracking Berisha for some time were originally unable to meet the asking price but a compromise has now been reached and it is understood that the 24 year old will join the German club for a reported £75,000.

Bielefeld general manager Detlev Dammeier told Bild:

'In the end they lowered their asking price to what we agreed on a few weeks ago.Besart is now able to sign his contract at our club and we are delighted. He is not fully fit just now, but everything else is fine.'

The player was signed by Steve Cotterill from Hamburg SV for £340,000 in July 2007 but was never able to make his first-team debut for the Clarets after suffering a cruel injury to his cruciate ligament in an International game for Albania. The injury kept him sidelined for the whole of the 2007/8 season.

It was clear that under Owen Coyle there was no room for the winger with both Wade Elliott and Chris Eagles ahead of him in the pecking order. During his time with Burnley he had two spells out on loan, first to Rosenborg in the autumn of 2008 and then to AC Horsens in January 2009. He returned to Burnley in May 2009 and still had a contract with the club until 2010.

In the summer however he was reported to be having a three-day trial with Arminia Bielefeld in the second tier of German football.Arminia Bielefeld were relegated last season from the Bundesliga.

It was thought he would be out on loan again this season although many Clarets were wondering whether they would ever see Berisha play for the first-team in Claret & Blue. They now have their answer.

Can't say I am surprised by the news although it would have been nice to have seen him play at least once in the first team!

We are left with memories of his terrific performance on the Turf for Albania against England.
Couch Potato
..and maybe that wonder goal he scored in that friendly against Accy!

Hope he does well - Wonder what woul dhave happened but for his injury.

I think he would probably have established himself in the Championship to be honest, Cotterill wasn't that bad a judge of players capabilities, let's face it over half the squad that got promoted under Coyle were Cotterill signings! I do think though Bes might have struggled at Prem level and I think that was part of the thinking for finally releasing him. Just a pity that injury happened, we could have been watching an exciting player

Good luck to Bes, only saw him in pre season friendlies at Accy and the Turf which I think was against Leeds. All the best to him

It looks like the media reports could have been a little premature with the deal not actually having been penned yet but the deal looks close.Following Saturday's 2-1 friendly defeat at home to Leeds United, boss Coyle said: "We'll know at the start of the week"
