Chester No Go!

Troubled club Chester City have had to cancel Thursday night's scheduled pre-season friendly against a Burnley XI at the Deva Stadium.

Chester were relegated last season from League 2 returning to non-league football after five years back in The Football League. Two weeks after the final match of 2008/9 the club entered administration.

The following month, creditors voted in favour of a rescue package by Stephen Vaughan's family, ahead of the Football Conference board's AGM where the club was accepted into the Blue Square Premier with a 10 point deduction.

The club had been given a deadline until 4pm today (Tuesday 28th July)to inform the Clarets whether the game was still going ahead.

Chester Club secretary, Tony Allen, has now confirmed that the match has been cancelled because the club wouldn't have obtained an FA licence in time to play the fixture.

The plan was originally to play a Burnley XI comprising of some of the first team squad but also a number of youth players.

It is probably not that important we will no longer be playing this game although it might have helped Chester financially and given our young lads a run out at the same time.
