Coyle Signs Richard Eckersley

The Clarets have now signed 20 year old Manchester United full-back Richard Eckersley.

Richard Eckersley is a versatile defender.

The Salford born and bred full-back is predominantly a right-sided player but is also comfortable at left-back.

Eckersley was out of contract at Old Trafford and turned down a new deal wanting more regular first-team action in the Premier League despite being on the verge of breaking through into the Red Devils first team.

Coyle only recently said:

"I`m well aware that Richard Eckersley is a fantastically talented player. He`s a Manchester United player, so that tells you all you need to know. He`s played in the first team there so there`s no doubt he`s a very talented player. As regarding anything concrete, I`ve got no comment at this time."

Well now he might have some comments to make with the lad signing for Burnley today in a four year deal. He will wear the Number 17 shirt.

The Clarets are now in discussion with Manchester United to finalise a compensation package and agree a fee due to the player's age.

Eckersley came through Manchester United's Academy after signing for them as a youth player in 2005.

His first team debut finally came in January 2009 in an FA Cup clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur when he came on as a 53rd minute substitute.

Eckersley will now join former United colleague, Chris Eagles at Turf Moor.

Just wish we would now sign some experienced heads, certainly in midfield. Would love to get Tudgay and Driver now

Yes Eckersley is another Coyle Babe but I agree a couple of old heads with premier league experiance would be good.

The options for right back are mounting up fast. Who will be r/b in our opening game do you reckon?

Ive ben speaking to a Man Utd friend, he says Eckersleyhas been playing centre back for them. Just a thought. He was young player of the year a couple of years ago too.

I am struggling to keep up. Before the playoffs pundits were saying that the playoff winner sometimes gets left behind by virtue of only finding out their fate a few weeks later than others. But whatever Coyle and the Board are on, I want some, because they seem to be leaving others in their wakes. Or is it just that we're moving fast in areas where others aren't competing, and the difficult trades may yet take a while? Tudgay and Driver (or similar in each case) would seem to complete the set. In the meantime, mine's a pint turfman. One with a head would be fine.
