Tuesday's Rumour Mill-Will He Eckersley Like?

Defender Richard Eckersley surprised Premier League Champions, Manchester United yesterday by rejecting a new deal.

The latest speculation in the Daily Mirror now suggests the 20 year old full back could be making a short journey to Burnley to have talks with Owen Coyle about a potential move to Turf Moor.

Eckersley plays at right back and came through Manchester United's Academy after signing for them as a youth player in 2005.

His first team debut finally came in January 2009 in an FA Cup clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur when he came on as a 53rd minute substitute.

It was thought that the Salford-born player was on the verge of breaking through into the first team but it looks like he his impatient for first team action in the Premier League and wants to play on a more regular basis. It is already understood he has turned down a move to Championship side, QPR.

Do we need another right back? One for the future if we sign this young lad I suspect

Not to sure about this one? he could possibly be one for the future but he wants first team football could we offer that with Mears, Duff and Alexander able to play there? i am all for competition if he wants to come! do we know if he is still under contract? if not some sort of fee would still be required with him being only 20

He has played twice for the Red Devils I believe, so despite the competition could stand a chance of more regular action for the Clarets. Thinking about it, he might only be competing with Mears since Duff and Alexander could find better opportunities in the centre/holding midfield resp.

We need more defenders as cover. He would be another good signing. I Think Phils right Duff and Alexanders pace I think rules them out at right back in the Premier league.

Think that is right Skutter - Duff is a good honest lad I'm sure but he isn't Premier League quality and will get found out at that level. At best he should be a squad player this year. Saw young Eckersley play a few minutes for United against Derby last season - he looked a bit nervous but if he has come through their set up he must be a decent player

I think Duff will be ok in the centre, but I agree he could be a liability at right back with the Prem pacemen on the wing

I think Edgar can also play on the right cant he? If true I feel we have got plenty of cover and cant see this one coming off

Good be for the future if we sign this lad but do tend to agree we are bringing in a lot of defenders now. Looks like we have given up on Anderson though with Easton taking the 24 shirt. Need to concentrate on midfield now I reckon, wonder if we still stand a chance with Middlesbrough winger, Adam Johnson? We need some biggish names now with proven Prem experience in my opinion! lets give bloody Scotland a rest!!
14/07/2009 21:59:00
Scotland will get a rest at Wigan ;-)

Thinks did that go through?
