Pre-season & the Friendly at Bradford is Here!

The Clarets embark on their first match today since defeating Sheffield United at Wembley back in May in the Championship Play-Offs Final and earning promotion to the top flight for the first time since 1976.

Yes, it's the pre-season friendlies already and in the Coral Windows stadium (aka Valley Parade) at 3pm today the Clarets will take the field to play League 2 side, Bradford City.

This will be the third pre-season running that we will have played the Bantams over the Pennines but this will be the first opportunity to see how well we are faring as we prepare for our first season in the Premier League.

Most Clarets fans taking the journey into Yorkshire will be mainly hoping to see our new signings and find out how well they are slotting into the side.

Owen Coyle will no doubt give the whole of his squad a run out at some point during the game but all eyes will be on the new boys, Tyrone Mears, Steven Fletcher and David Edgar.

Could there also be a few surprises and might we see some triallists? Who knows!

We also have of course five young new professionals who have come up through the youth scheme. Will we see any of them also given a run out? A number of Clarets fans I am sure will be keen to see in particular how hotshot, young Wes Fletcher is coming along and see how close he might be to making his full debut for the Clarets in the first team this season in one of the toughest Leagues in Europe!

Vital Burnley will bring you news of the teams, goals and action in this match as soon as we get any information.

The excitement is too much. I need to lie down.

Wish I could find somewhere that was covering the match. Looks like Clarets World, 2br and Radio Lancs are no-nos. If anybody hears about live coverage, let me know on here
turfmanphil
2br are running regular up-dates from 2!that is about all i can find,we had this problem last summer with the friendly's,i signed up to Clarets world last year with the hope of getting commentary but to no avail!pretty sure had we gone a bit more high profile we would have commentary no disrespect to the teams we are playing intended.

Anybody having problems listening to 2br? Just got this new IE8 browser, was asked to allow an add-on and now the player aint working, looks like its trying to but just keep getting 'buffering' coming up with no sound
turfmanphil
I just tried it tmp same on mine must be a problem at their end? i am on 50 mb download so i should have no problem with it
8clarets8
Oh well thats comforting to know that it's nowt to do with my end!
turfmanphil
No surprise but Owen Coyle aims to hand 22 players 45 minutes each in today's friendly
turfmanphil
Official site suggests Remco on the bench - if he sees any action today he will almost equal time spent on the park last season !

New boys Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher both started Burnley's first pre-season friendly at Bradford. Third summer signing David Edgar was handed a place on the substitutes bench, while minor training ground knocks for Chris McCann and Chris Eagles ruled them both out of the warm-up. Burnley: Jensen, Mears, Jordan, Alexander, Carlisle, Caldwell, Blake, K McDonald, Fletcher, Paterson, Elliott.Subs: Penny, Gudjonsson, Kalvenes, Rodriguez, Thompson, Edgar, Duff, Kay, van der Schaaf.

1-0 Clarets, Alexander from open play after 13 minutes on edge of box after Jordan released Blake to pass

Anyone seen Berisha yet this summer?
Couch Potato
Aha, have now found him further down tmp's home page. Hope he finds a home somewhere.
Couch Potato
He's in Germany CP looking for a loan, see article on site
turfmanphil
Drat Bantams equalised in 24th minute 1-1, sounds like error by Grezza
turfmanphil
At least we're doing better than England in the Ashes.
Couch Potato
We were Bantams now 2-1 up after 35 minutes, dont panic,Mr Mannering!!
turfmanphil
There goes my first prediction of the season! Let's get the silly defensive lapses out of the way now?
Couch Potato
Cant wait to see how the lads play.
Grimsby Claret
Half time 2-1 to them!
turfmanphil
Burnley's second half line up: Penny, Mears, Duff, Edgar, Kalvenes, Elliott, Gudjonsson, McDonald, Blake, Rodriguez, Thompson Subs: van der Schaaf, Kay
turfmanphil
Van der Schaaf now on for Mears in 63rd minute still 2-1 to them
turfmanphil
Final substitution,Kay on for Thompson with 20 mins left
turfmanphil
2000 Clarets fans saw us go down to defeat 2-1 after being i-0 up after 13 minutes. Oh well, just a cobweb remover, wouldn't read too much into it!
turfmanphil
We have lost. So what? We had great results in pre-season last year, then got 2 points from 4 games. I am more upset to have already lost my own personal prediciton record! Only major point of interest was perhaps the appearnace of Remco.
Couch Potato
First game as a premier league side and we loose against league 2 Bradford I suppose it was their cup final.
Grimsby Claret
Not concerned at all about this result, we lost our first game last pre-season too against a US Under 21 side in North Carolina! A game of two sides basically with Coyle experimenting and trying options whilst dusting off the cobwebs!
