Rumour Mill-Mahon To Return to Tranmere?

Alan Mahon is currently looking for a new club after being released by Burnley earlier this summer.

According to Skysports.com, Tranmere are considering a move to bring Mahon back to Prenton Park. Mahon started his career at Tranmere, spending five years at the club before joining Sporting Clube de Portugal

Tranmere boss John Barnes has invited the 31 year old, Republic of Ireland international for pre-season training in order to assess the midfielder.

If Mahon impresses during training he could seal a move back to the League One club.

If he does find a new club, just hope he can manage to drop the 'sicknote' image

I reckon he could do a good job at Tranmere!

He was just too inconsistent for us and being plagued with injury was too much stop/start. He put in some good games though for the Clarets and had he kept up that consistency and played on a more regular basis, I suspect he would be a Prem player with us now! I noticed at Wembley and on the victory tour bus in Burnley he seemed prominent in his celebrations and looked proud to have been associated with the club. Hope he wasnt gutted when Coyle broke the bad news

I think he knew it was on the cards when he was allowed to go to Blackpool! he will do well at Tranmere and can swap some old stories with Ian Moore and Danny Coyne ;-)

He was never anywhere near good enough.
razo
Agree in general razo, he did though have the odd game in which in played a blinder but he could never deliver those performances consistently enough.

Spoken to a mate whos a Leeds Utd fan, they have been linked to him too.
skutter169
Interesting if Leeds link true, skutter! He might be playing against us in friendly on 1st Aug!! lol

I disagree Razo - i think it was clear he had the ability to do it for us and he put in some excellent performances. I remember a 2-2 draw at Palace in which he basically ran the game. I think the problem, as mentioned above, was the consistency in both fitness and performances.
Claretdale
He was nowhere near good enough to play in the middle, and never ever had a good game on the left.

noone coming here of any good
