'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rumour Mill-Hamilton Superkid James McCarthy.

If the Scottish media is to be believed, Owen Coyle could be interested in bringing 18 year old Glasgow- born midfielder, James McCarthy to Turf Moor from Hamilton Academicals.

The youngster is already a Republic of Ireland Under 21 International with two caps so far.He is eligible to play for Ireland because his grandfather was born there.

He has only ever played for the SPL side professionally after coming through their youth system. McCarthy made his debut against Queen of the South as a substitute on 30 September 2006, becoming the youngest player to play for Hamilton Academical this century. He is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Europe.

Hamilton were promoted to the Scottish Premier League in the 2007/8 season and in May 2008 he signed a new three-year contract with the club.

Sounds an exciting prospect and at only 18 looks like one for the future

If we do sign him, he may be one in a couple of seasons. Good squad member though. He would have to scrap for a place though. I do think Kevin McDonald will push on this year if he can stay injury free.

He would be a GREAT addition to the squad - the question is price. I am not sure if he would need time to settle into the squad - he might be up to it NOW!

you may be right Barnsey, As with most of the players from north of the border - we dont know a great deal about them. He could be another Kev Mc who, in my opinion, is good enough for a regular start if he can stay injury free.

I think who ever we seem to bring in if it does not work we would get our money back and maybe more?

Sounds like a great prospect but Hamiltons don't want to sell him.

Hamilton wont have choice if the price is right , looking forward to watching this kid !!

By all accounts we are close to signing Hamilton's James McCarthy if the Sunday People today is correct (5th July) Similarly Andrew Driver!
