Are We Back in the Driver Seat?

Hearts winger, Andy Driver will become Owen Coyle's latest signing at Burnley within the next 48 hours if media reports are to be believed.

The England Under 21 International(with just one cap) is understood to be keen to move to the club especially that we are now in the Premier League where of course he will now also join forces with former Hibs striker Steven Fletcher.

Hearts and Burnley dont appear to have agreed on a figure though if the rumours are true.

The Tynecastle side rate Driver at over 4 million while Owen Coyle might think a more modest 2 million or so would be more appropriate.

Driver grew up in Oldham but left when his father's work caused the family to relocate to near Edinburgh.

He started playing non-league football for Hutchison Vale AFC before joining Hearts in 2003

In August 2006 Driver signed a five year extension to his contract until 2011.

He has now played 74 times for Hearts scoring 13 goals.

Driver was the subject of two bids from Burnley last summer but Hearts rejected them both. Coventry City who made a 1 million bid in the 2009 January transfer window were also given short shrift.

According to the Sun the Clarets have already had a 2m bid for the Hearts' winger turned down this summer and reports suggest that the initial bid was blocked by Jambos director Sergejus Fedotovas. He was unhappy that the SPL side would only receive 1.25m up front with the rest coming from add-ons.Fedotovas said:

"We are not in any rush to sell Andy Driver, absolutely. The manager and the club also believes he still needs to develop as well. We are discussing bids that have come in but at the moment our priority right now is to strengthen the squad."

None, obviously. ^^ Good player though, hope he stays with us for another year at least.

I am encouraged by the signings we are making and rumoured to be making, but the lack of true premiership experience is a little concerning. Last season Stoke signed the two Fayes, Beattie and probably a couple of others proven at the top level - I hope that we see a couple of these later this summer.

Have faith Dale - new signings are mostly young 'uns and OC knows what he is doing. If other rumours are to be belived there are a few more to come too. Though Driver is English most of the others are Scottish so let's hope some of the Tartan Army swell our ranks. Perhaps a certain Sir Alex will be supportive too.

would be a decent signing but just can't see it. 4 mill not a chance bit too much for him i think.

Hope Hearts don't price the lad out of our reach , this lad would be another good addition in my opinion!!

Looks like they have put up the price tag even more to a ridiculous 6 million according to Vital Hearts-An alleged 'club source' told one of the papers: 'Sergejus wants top dollar for Andy.Clubs are in for him and bids have been tabled. But Hearts feel when you look at the players who were in that England squad, Driver's ability should be reflected in the price. Sergejus is convinced Andy will light up the SPL this season. His argument is he'll probably be worth more than 6million next season, so why shouldn't he ask that much for him now?'

By all accounts we are close to signing Driver if the Sunday People today is correct. Similarly Hamilton's James McCarthy
