Are Burnley about to sign Fletcher for £3 million?

According to reports in Scotland today the Clarets may well be favourites to sign Hibs striker Steven Fletcher.

Burnley are reported to be willing to pay a fee in the region of £3 million with bonus payments and add-ons adding another £0.5 million

This of course would be, by some distance a transfer record for the club should the 22 year old agree terms. Our current record stands at £1.3 million for Martin Paterson last summer.

It is understood Owen Coyle has discussed the transfer with the current Hibs manager, John Hughes and it looks like the latter will be discussing the situation with Hibs chairman, Rod Petrie very soon.

Hughes confessed:

'Owen called to give me the heads up that there's an interest there. He asked me about Fletch and I told him he can compete, he's good in the air, quick and when he gets the ball on that left foot he always hits the target.Having been travelling yesterday I need to get up to date not only with what's happening regarding Fletch but a number of things so I'll be meeting the chairman and chief executive today to discuss a range of matters.'

Celtic, Wigan and Middlesboro have all been linked with the Scottish International but the Clarets appear to be the best placed to sign him with the Shrewsbury-born striker stating a desire to play in the English top flight. It is intimated that the Clarets may well have the advantage over other Premier League clubs because their small squad could well mean that a starting role is almost guaranteed.

So things are hotting up and this could be the week that a number of new player signings could well be announced.

have Burnley got 3 million ******** quid to spend should be the question.

IMO this would be a signing we need. Just as Beatie saved Stoke so Fletch could be a real bargain if his goals kept us in the promised land come next May. OC will have a plan I am sure and it may just involve a little ROTATION of strikers!!

So, tmp, you thought yesterday was a busy day. Today might be even more hard work for you, with official announcements on the Bfc site about Mears having signed and Fletch being in talks, etc, etc.

Wigan have made a last ditch effort to land Hibs striker Steven Fletcher with boss Roberto Martinez sanctioning a move for the striker after learning of Lancashire rivals Burnley's interest.
