Today's Rumour Mill Update-No2:David Edgar

22 year old Canadian central defender, David Edgar could be poised to leave relegated Newscastle and return to the Premier League with the Clarets if local Tyneside media reports are to be believed.

Edgar is understood to be unhappy with the terms of a new contract offer at St James's Park and it is also suggested that talks with Birmingham about a move has also stalled allowing Owen Coyle to move in and make an offer.

The Canadian Under 20 International prefers to play at centre back but can play at right back if required.

Edgar came through Newcastle's Academy after signing as a youth in 2001. He made his first team debut for Newcastle against Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day 2006 and has made just 19 appearances for the club scoring a couple of goals.

Eddie Edgar, David's father was also a professional goalkeeper for Newcastle although played just one game before moving onto Hartlepool United before playing eventually for New York Cosmos. He married a Canadian and his son grew up in Kitchener, Ontario.

Curiously the Clarets seem to have been linked with a number of full-backs/central defenders recently, Bobo Balde being one only today. We also await to hear if Derby defender, Tyrone Mears will accept a move to Turf Moor after the two clubs had agreed a deal.

There also seems to be a strange competition with Birmingham for players at the moment including both today's rumours, Balde and now Edgar!

Surely we cant be after all three players can we? If we are and succeed, we will certainly have options in the back four more than we have ever had before!

Another one in the right age group but he does he have enough Prem League experience? What do you think? Just 19 games in four years looks a bit ominous to me but what do I know?

I must admit not knowing too much about this player! it's either a case of somebody trying to attract interest or Mr Coyle has seen something in him? i seem to be saying this lately we will see :-)

Eagles wont have played many premiership games either when we signed him , Edgar would be another quality signing in my opinion but what do I know !

Everyone seems agreed we need defenders. Is it that Coyle's putting out lots of feelers, so as to cover his bases if his preferred players don't come on board, and maybe so as to bluff sellers into bringing prices down? Or is it that various local media thinks that's what he's doing and are therefore linking him with their unwanted and unloved young and old so as to sell papers? Who knows? He is keeping his cards close to his chest.

Would he be willing to take a massive pay cut, as I'm sure at Toon he is n ore than £15,000.

BURNLEY boss Owen Coyle is closing in on Newcastle defender David Edgar. (The Sun). The full-back was last night having a medical at Turf Moor, along with Derby ace Tyrone Mears. Really?

Not quite sure of the relevance of quoting Eagles BL, since we signed him as a Championship player. Indeed I thought he had a somewhat indifferent season at this lower level but I hope I am proven wrong and he plays a blinder for us in top flight. Truth be known in relation to Edgar, I and probably most Clarets know little about him and only have stats to go off. The bottom line must surely be though with only 19 appearances under his belt in the top flight he is at most unproven and if we sign him it will be all about potential. I will of course back OCs judgement in all this and hope if he comes it pays off

So The Sun has come out again today. Yawn. Wake me up when God has spoken.
Couch Potato
By the way it is worth noting if we do sign him, he will start the season with a suspension after being sent off in the Toon's final game against Aston Villa.

i hope we sign him he ment to be good
