Rumour Mill-Rabiu Afolabi Who?

29 year old, Nigerian International Rabiu Afolabi is understood to be on Owen Coyle's radar according to the Daily Mirror.

He is available on a free transfer after deciding to leave French Ligue 1 club Sochaux at the end of the 2008-09 season. Afolabi revealed back in May that he could be moving to the Premier League this summer. Aston Villa, Birmingham and Wolves were all linked with him back then but nothing to date has come to fruition. He also claims to have received offers from clubs in Spain, Germany and Turkey but said recently to Sky Sports:

'I am a free agent in June. I have so many clubs interested in me. However my preference is to play in the Premier League this is the best league in the world.'

The 6ft defender normally plays in the centre but is quite versatile and can play as a fullback or defensive midfielder as well.

The defender played for Nigerian Club, NEPA Lagos before moving to Europe to play for Belgian club, Standard Liege in 1997. Since that time he has been well-travelled across the Continent and enjoyed a loan spell with SSC Napoli in 2000/1 before joining Austria Vienna in 2003. Afolabi joined French outfit,FC Sochaux in 2005 and to date has 10 caps for his country.

Not sure a 29 year old fits the bill but if he's free then Coyle may know something we don't assuming there is any iota of truth in this rumour?

With regards to what has been said about signing 21-24 year olds british/scandinavian - We cannot just sign players like this! We need a good mixture of players. Whilst I expect the majortiy will be of this description, I also expect to see one or two older faces.
