Rumour Mill- Adam and Eve It Johnson?

Rumour Mill- Adam and Eve It Johnson?

Burnley FC are interested in bringing Middlesbrough winger, Adam Johnson to Turf Moor if the Sunday papers are to be believed this morning.

The 21-year old England Under 21 International will be out of contract in 12 months time and this is not the first time we have been linked with the player.

Owen Coyle was looking to loan the player in the 2008 January transfer window.

Things have changed somewhat since that time, with Middlesbrough being relegated to the Championship at the end of last season and the Clarets moving in the opposite direction so it will be interesting to see how much more muscle we now have with Johnson no doubt keen to return to the top flight.

Owen Coyle recently did not rule out the possibility of breaking our current transfer record (£1.3 million for Paterson) to get the players we want and the Sunday People has suggested we may have offered £2 million for the winger.

£2 million though is unlikely to tempt Middlesbrough to accept with the paper also suggesting the relegated club would be looking for more like £5 million!

Adam Johnson plays predominantly on the left wing but he can also play on the right flank.

The player came through Middlesbrough's Academy and has played 68 times for Boro scoring two goals. Johnson during his time at the Riverside has also been out on loan a couple of times. He was at Leeds United in October 2006 playing a handful of games during his month's loan.In September 2007 Johnson joined Championship side Watford on a three month loan and scored five times in 12 appearances before being recalled by Gareth Southgate.

£5 bloody million? Johnson is worth £8m minimum. He will probably leave on a free at the end of the season to join a top club or Spurs.

This just gets dafter and dafter, we sold Lafferty, a full Northern Ireland International to Rangers last season for £4 million, nobody is going to fork out anywhere near to that for Johnson let alone double it! You would be better taking £2 million now rather than get nowt in 12 months time. Don't think Johnson either is going to be keen to spend a season in the Fizzy Pop league when he can get up into Prem

I think £3 million would get him - 1 year left on his contract, and will be "guaranteed" a start in our side, or at least a lot of games...

Boro are resigned to the fact that he can walk away in 12 months for nothing or we can sell him now and get a few million, however if Johnson were to play an influential part in a successful promotion effort it would be worth far more to the club than even £8m. If that were the case then he'd be playing week-in-week-out in the Premiership for the team he's been with since school, and - no disrespect to you guys - Burnley will more than likely be back in the "fizzy pop" league. Johnsons is arguably already better than Downing - if and when he leaves Boro it will be to a bigger club than Burnely.

Bigger is not always best and there is not much fun in being a squad player for a so called-big club if you never get to play. If he signed for us, he would be guaranteed to play in almost every game in the top flight unless of course he would prefer loads of dosh and hardly ever get chance to play! If he does Coyle wouldn't want him anyway

I do like the sound of lad and a true left winger would be very good for us. Blakey has done a brill job, but he lacks a yard of pace, still think hes better just behind a striker. I don't think hes worth 5 mill though, I agree with Barnsey 3 mill would be about right. And yes Burnely are a small club, but we are Premier League and I wouldn't count us out. We have a habit of shocking people. Oh and I predict we nearly sell out the turf every game this year. Boro didn't do that last year.

The left side needs strengthening, not least as Robbie isn't getting any younger, and neither he nor Kalvenes are blessed with great speed. But even £3million? Only if Coyle and the Board are sure they could sell him on for a profit, should the need arise. To paraphrase VinRouge on another thread: we have a go for the best this year, but also plan for dealing with other possibilities.

So Paulofyork Johnson is better than Downing, really then why is he playing for lets face not a very good club and a championship side at that. If he is better than Downing surely he'd be playing with the big boys.

I read that Lars Jacobsen is still a transfer target. If true then he could be good for you. Apparently the only reason he couldn't get games at Everton was a shoulder injury. He did however come on for the second half of the Cup Final. He's been a regular Denmark international since 2006 and available on a free transfer.
