Rumour Mill-Official Clarets Bid for Scotland

Burnley have made an official bid for Swansea City striker Jason Scotland according to BBC Sport.

They state that Scotland's agent, Mike Berry, has confirmed that the Clarets have made a seven-figure offer for Swansea's hotshot striker.

'I'm led to believe that Burnley have been in touch with Swansea and made a bid for Jason.Negotiations are still on-going, but it is a substantial bid. I believe the bid from Burnley is in excess of £1m' said Berry.

The Sunday papers back in May were suggesting Owen Coyle could be interested in bringing Jason Scotland to Turf Moor in the summer transfer window.

The 30 year old Trinidad & Tobago International signed from St Johnstone for just £25,000 in July 2007 and has scored 53 goals for the Swans in 102 appearances. He has taken the Championship by storm this season in Swansea's promotion year from League 1 scoring 21 goals and was actually third behind Wolves striker Syvlan Ebanks-Blake and Cardiff's Ross McCormack in last season's Championship Top Scorers listing.

Owen Coyle of course is no stranger to the player having managed him at St Johnstone but he will face tough competition from a number of Premier League clubs in order to sign him.

Fulham were reportedly prepared to offer £2.5 million for the player back in May.Roy Hodgson has been keeping tabs on the player since February and the Cottagers gaffer will well remember Scotland scoring two against Fulham in the FA Cup in January this year.

Middlesbrough were also linked with a move for the Trinidad & Tobago frontman but they could now be at a disadvantage in view of their relegation to the Championship with the Clarets moving in the opposite direction.

The latest club to show interest could be Wigan Athletic in view of Swansea's former manager,Roberto Martinez now being in charge.

It is perhaps surprising that Owen Coyle is interested in Scotland bearing in mind recently that Flood suggested our targets in the transfer window would be in the 21-24 age group.

Scotland who still has one year remaining on his contract at the Liberty Stadium could be greatly tempted though by a move into the Premier League at his age according to his agent:

'Jason has turned 30, he wants to play at the highest level and play in the Premier League and this is an opportunity for him to play at the top - and I think everyone at Swansea would agree he has earned the right to do so'

Looks like there might be something in this although his agent could just be bigging him up again

Every time I hear that name, I recall Jeff Stelling's brilliant joke: "That was Scotland... from Trinidad and Tobago... scoring for a Welsh side... in England!" :D
RussianHammer
Dunno about him really but he certainly got on score sheet at Swansea and looked threatening in the games I've seen him play.

Told you Sheclaret there was truth in this rumour

He'll either be a hit or a dreadful miss, I suspect the former!

Just seems to go against the grain regarding the type of player we are supposed to be after re age! Still I would not be one who would argue with Coyle after what he has achieved for this club in under two years
