Rumour Mill-St Ledger? Is the Race On?

Republic of Ireland International, Sean St Ledger has been linked in the media with Everton, West Brom and Burnley. Some reports also suggest Owen Coyle is planning a 2 million bid.

The 24 year old defender was signed by Preston from Peterborough on a three year contract for a fee of 225,000 on 7 July 2006 and has since made 126 appearances for the club whilst also managing to score 8 goals.

He is mainly a central defender but has also played on either flank, and in midfield during his spell with Peterborough United.

St Ledger has impressed in the Championship and scooped numerous Player of the Year Awards in 2007/8.

This season he helped the Lilywhites scrape into the play-offs in the last match of the season and he earned his first Republic of Ireland cap last week. He has also been tipped as a future Preston captain.

St Ledger though has been quoted in the media saying he is happy to stay at Deepdale despite the specualtion:

"I fully expect to be at Preston when we report back for training on July 1, still learning from Alan Irvine, who is a great manager. Without doubt I'm ambitious and my dream is to play in the Premier League. I'd like to get to the Premier League with Preston, that was my aim when I joined the club."

With his contract expiring in the summer though, might he not be tempted to join a Premier League side like the Clarets or Everton, rather than have yet another season in the Championship with Preston or indeed newly relegated, West Brom?

Funny one this only seen the rumours on less than kosher websites like goal.com, clubcall, tribalfootball etc and not in the mainstream media. The links appear to have been strong enough though for St Ledger to release his statement

Can't stand St Ledger, but maybe thats because he plays for PNE, you never know if he moves to the premiership with Burnley, I may start to see him as a real life Saint!!!

Think he is complete part, ever since i seen him on Ron Atkinson Football Manager series on Sky...He was a real plonker and spoilt brat ....let PNE keep him, not a OC type player..IMO

Probably not true anyway but I guess if Owen Coyle does want him, we have to support his judgement
