Three players out-of-contract have been released by the club.
It comes as no surprise that Steve Jones and Gabor Kiraly have been released after spending most of the season out on loan and never appearing to be in Owen Coyle's long term plans. Gabor Kiraly was demoted to our third string goalkeeper and it will be a relief to now have got the high salary player off the books. Kiraly has not made a first team appearance this season for the Clarets and completed a loan move to German side Bayer Leverkusen in January 2009. Steve Jones has also been out on loan in his case to Bradford City signing for them in November 2008 for the remainder of the Bantams season.
The release of Alan Mahon is not a complete shock but some may have hoped he would be kept in the squad for our first season in the top flight since 1976. He has however only come on from the substitutes's bench this campaign for the Clarets making eight appearances and had a loan spell at Blackpool towards the end of the season.
Two of our first team youngsters though have been offered new contracts. Alex MacDonald has been offered a new two-year deal.
Adam Kay too will get at least one more season at Turf Moor having been offered a one-year contract. Kay recently returned from a loan spell at Accrington Stanley and he may have joined them on a permanent basis had Coyle not provided a new offer.
Clarets fans will be delighted also that 37 year old, Graham Alexander has also been given a new contract after an astonishing season in which he played in all 61 Clarets games in addition to winning numerous Player of the Year Awards by the Players and Supporters Clubs. Grezza has been offered a new one-year deal at Turf Moor.
