'An Ode To Burnley' by Poster Colin Waldron

The emotional roller coaster all Clarets fans are going through at the moment with Burnley FC about to embark on their biggest game this century can best be summed up by one of our posters, Colin Waldron

He has written a poem and sets the scene as follows:

'Started to feel quite emotional about our Wembley visit this morning and it made me reflect on matters Burnley over the last thirty odd years, so much so that I ended up writing this a few hours ago. Please bear with the ramblings of an old Burnley supporter'

An Ode to Burnley

Seventy six made me cry
My beloved Burnley I saw die
From the top division we did fall
Down, down we were out of control

No quick return for us beckoned
We fell faster than we reckoned
Division three and four here we come
Falling faster than the setting sun

Eighty seven we hit rock bottom
How can that ever be forgotten?
Ninety two we started our climb
Champions and not before time

Ninety four and play off time
We take our place but fall from grace
A new millennium will see
Burnley out of division three

So near and yet so far away
To the promised land can we dare stray?
This season now we can all believe
and make that climb our pain to relieve

For Burnley may the glory be
A magnificant effort at Wembley
No matter where our fortunes lie
It will be Burnley till I die
