Rumour Mill- Another Scott Severin Link with Dons?

The Daily Record today reports that Burnley are interested in bringing 30 year old Aberdeen midfielder, Scot Severin to Turf Moor.

Although classed as a defensive midfielder the Scottish International is more of a utility player and has played at centre back, right back and up front as a striker for both Aberdeen and his previous club, Hearts. He has even played between the sticks in the final few minutes as a stand-in goalkeeper for Hearts in a match against Rangers!

Severin started his professional career with Hearts in 1997 but decided to join Aberdeen in July 2004 after his contract at the Edinburgh club expired.

He signed a new three-and-a-half year contract at Pittodrie in December 2005 so this is now due to expire this Summer.

The Scot with 14 caps for his country now looks set to leave Pittodrie at the end of the season because it is understood the Dons cannot afford to offer him a new contract.

This is not the first time we have been linked with this player. He certainly looks a good bet for a small squad in view of the positions he can play, but do we really need another midfielder and if we get promotion to the Premier League would an unproven 30-year old struggle at this level?

Looks like the silly season has started early with some Rumour Mill news already. I would have thought it might be best to see which division we are in next season and therefore what our potential finances are like before considering new players. Difficult to guage how much this rumour has legs and could just be a re-hash of the previous rumours and a guess because Coyle knows the Scottish football market!

Some more from Teamtalk:The midfielder,is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with Burnley. He insists he has yet to make up his mind whether to sign on at Pittodrie or jump ship but is tempted by a move to England after seeing former team-mates Barry Nicholson and Russell Anderson thrive down south. Scotland international Severin said: "A few clubs have been on the phone to my agent but he has told them we are still in discussion with Aberdeen and they will be the first club to know my decision. "I realise a tough decision will have to be made and I will not rush into it. I have a young family to think about and my wee boy starts school next year. "I am 30 now and this will be the biggest decision of my career so I will take as long as is necessary. I have spent 10 years in the SPL and there are times you feel it is a bit boring and you fancy a new challenge. "There are other times you realise this is a great league to play in and I enjoy it. "Barry Nicholson decided to go and has really enjoyed it. Russell Anderson is another player who made the move and doesn't regret it."

Don't know anything about this player so wouldn't know if he would be good for BFC or not. However, must agree with TMP, bit soon for the rumour mill and as he said shouldn't we be waiting to see if we will be playing in the top tier first.

From reading a report in the guaridian about Modus Properties ( Brendan Flood), we may have trouble financing any players if we dont get promoted!

I wouldn't worry about Modus they are just restructuring as any business would do in this current climate. You only need worry if Flood starts calling in his loans and there is no evidence he will do that

I would agree with turfman that the danger of a multi-million loan recall is not too high. Flood and Kilby are Burnley through and through, so would seem unlikely to act in this way on their own initiative. I guess there is a theoretical danger (as WHU are experiencing, I believe) of someone putting the heat on a financially embarrassed director (IF Bfc has one, and there is no evidence to say we do) to get cash back to settle their debts, even if they don't personally want to. But this really is idle speculation. Sounds to me as though Flood and Kilby will have thought about this, and taken precuations. Let's hope so. IN these days, who can tell. The more interesting thing might be the scale of any spending on players over the summer, whether we go up or not. I won't be holding my breath for expensive squad additions, even if we do go up. Recent history suggests that clubs most at risk in the Championship include those who have gone up, spent a lot and come back down. Being somewhat tight-fisted even if we do go up, may not be a bad idea for the medium term development of the club. If we don't go up, I would imagine that perhaps Lynch and Kudiersky are asking themselves whether they can play right back as well as Duffman. And bringing in affordable Scots (where there is said to be every likelihood of clubs seriously trimming squad sizes) would seem a very plausible development. So now just sit back and watch me be completely wrong about all of this! But hopefully I will be right about us securing a play off spot at some point on Saturday. I will be travelling home afterwards on trains carrying Saints across Hants and Dorset. It's almost certainly going to be a sad and worrying journey for someone. I am cautiously optimistic that I will be stifling a roar of celebration till the Saints have got off the train, maybe having to save it up till I hear the PNE score.
