Coyle's Clarets Cup Final

The Clarets play their most important match of the season (indeed many a season) tonight knowing that three points could make their play-off dreams almost reality.

A victory would see them go above Reading to 5th and would ensure we had some breathing space over the 7th club,Swansea and 8th placed club, local rivals, Preston.

We would have a four point advantage over both Swansea and Preston with just two games to play. Swansea face a difficult game away to Sheffield United in their next game while Preston face an equally hard match away to Birmingham. Both the home sides are chasing automatic promotion and of course one of those teams, Sheffield United are the visitors to Turf Moor tonight in what is already proving to be a nerve jangling affair for Clarets fans.

Anything less than a victory tonight and both Preston and/or Swansea could easily rob the Clarets of a play-offs spot at the death. They could anyway if we mess up in our last two matches. We play relegation-threatened Southampton at St Marys this Saturday with our last match against Bristol City at home on Sunday May 3rd. At least the Robins are no longer in with a chance of reaching the play-offs and will only be playing for pride.

Owen Coyle is in no doubt about the importance of tonight's game against the Blades

Speaking to the club's Official Site he said:

'Sheffield United are a good side, carrying all before them, although they would look back and probably be disappointed with drawing at home against 10-man Nottingham Forest last week. But Monday night is our cup final, there's no doubt about it, and we'll give everything to try and get three points. They're obviously going to be striving for automatic promotion so they'll come here and be positive. The atmosphere is going to be conducive to a real footballing environment, which we love at Turf Moor. And we'll look to make sure we're at our best.'

Come on you Clarets dig deep and show that cup competition resolve that you did this season against the top sides of the Premier League! We can do this!

I ain't bothered where the goals come from as long as they come tonight. We deserve our day at Wembley this season.
