Akinbiyi Agrees Terms with Houston Dynamo

Burnley striker, Ade Akinbiyi is close to completing a move across the pond to MLS side Houston Dynamo after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical in the US.

The 34-year-old flew over to the USA last Friday to discuss terms and is understood to have agreed a standard contract with the details not being released.

The deal has not yet been finalised though with Burnley FC and their approval is awaited. It is widely expected this will be a formality.

Houston Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear has this to say about his potential new signing

"We felt that, looking at his resume and what he`s done the last couple of years, that he can be a very important part of our team.He brings pace, power and strength, and that`s the way we like to play."

Asked about the move to the US and his new club, Akinbiyi said:

"I`m a winner, really,I know a lot of people said something about my age, but I feel comfortable in saying I`ve got a couple of good years left in me.I just want to settle down here as quickly as possible and get on with the team."

It looks like Burnley FC will be down yet another player in their squad as they try to reach the play-offs in their six remaining games of the season.

Akinbiyi could be joining his new team-mates as early as Friday and make his MLS debut for Houston Dynamo away to DC United this Saturday.

Good luck Ade and thanks for all the great memories!

Must admit, I thought this deal would happen in the Summer and he would be available for us just in case over the last six games of this season but I guess not. Effective squad size now 19

I was also hoping this wouldn't happen till end of season but good luck and all the best to Ade. Going to be a bit contreversal here but with a squad size of now only 19 makes me wonder if the board have same desire as the fans to get into the premiership

I think the jitter's are affecting many of us , we could well be entering a monumental period in the history of Burnley Football Club and the more you build your expection of success , the further the fall! To get promoted would be unbelievable but if not , I think we will come back stronger , on the player shortage , i'm not too worried as Kirally , Mahon , Akinbiyi , Berisha, Van der Shaff , Jones & Kay did'nt play more than a handfull of games between them !!

With his contract due to expire in the summer, it is expected the remainder of his deal will be bought out by Akinbiyi himself, leaving him free to sign for Houston immediately.
